During the early stages of his career, Dr. McCoy held various roles with the U.S. Navy, including COMNAVSURFLANT Type Commander, Executive Director of ATC and UAS operations, Air Traffic Control Watch Officer aboard the U.S.S. Iwo Jima, U.S.S Saipan and fully qualified onboard U.S.S. Enterprise, and Naval Air Station Norfolk Training and Tower Chief along with Operational Chief onboard U.S.S Gerald R. Ford and Leading Chief at Naval Air Station Oceana.
Dr. McCoy's academic journey is a testament to his commitment to learning. He holds a Bachelor of Science in workforce education and training, a Master of Education in workforce education and development, Senior Enlisted Leadership course in Military Justice and Civil Law from Naval Justice School, and a PhD in theology from Northern Illinois University. His dedication to his field is further demonstrated by his certifications in air traffic control safety, hazardous materials management, waste technology, national security, information systems technology, and quality control from the U.S. Navy and the Federal Aviation Administration.
Dr. McCoy's contributions extend beyond his professional and educational pursuits. He is an active member of Disabled American Veterans and 32* Shriner/Freemasonry, demonstrating his commitment to community service. His outstanding military accomplishments, including earning multiple Service Medal's , an five Navy Achievement Medal, four Navy Commendation Medals, and two Meritorious Service Medals, are a testament to his dedication. He takes particular pride in achieving a perfect score on an OPNAV ATC Quality Assessment (QA) while leading team Oceana.
