AUSTIN, TX, August 28, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Gregory K. McMillan has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Backed by years of engineering expertise, Mr. McMillan starting in 2002 writes a monthly control talk column for Control Global, a control magazine. Likewise, he contributes to monthly question-and-answer (Q&A) posts for the International Society of Automation and weekly Q&A posts for Prosera. He excelled as a senior principal software engineer for Emerson Process Systems and Solutions, where he began as a modeling and control consultant in 2002. Over the years, Mr. McMillan also honed his expertise as a modeling and control consultant for CDI Professional Services and MYNAH Technologies.
Throughout his career, he has obtained patents for methods and systems for batch process control, wireless automation, and rapid model identification. He became a senior fellow in Solutia, Inc. and Monsanto. Additionally, Mr. McMillan has written more than 200 feature articles and papers and authored more than 20 books on process instrumentation, modeling, and control.
Before establishing himself professionally, Mr. McMillan earned a Bachelor of Science in engineering physics from the University of Kansas. Subsequently, Mr. McMillan expanded his professional knowledge by completing a master's degree in electrical engineering technologies specializing in control theory from the Missouri University of Science and Technology. Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, Mr. McMillan aligns himself with the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) and the International Society of Automation (ISA). He was inducted into the Process Automation Hall of Fame in its inaugural year (2001) and received the ISA Life Achievement Award in 2010. He has also, in the last five years, received several AIChE best presentation awards and ISA Mentor and Standards Achievement awards.
Although his career has been filled with highlights, Mr. McMillan takes the most pride in his progress in pH measurement and control. In addition to completing the fourth edition of his book on the subject, he conducted groundbreaking work in pH modeling, authored a book on compressor modeling and control, and formulated new equations for kinetics in bioprocesses that offer greater ease of use to a wide range of bioreactions. While hard work and dedication have brought him far in his career, he credits his success to maintaining an open mind, learning from others, and embracing lifelong learning. Within the next five years, Mr. McMillan intends to positively impact his community, foster open-mindedness, and enhance collaboration. He also aims to continue his monthly control talk column and "ask the automation pros" posts.
