Mr. Gielow is particularly proud of the many years he spent in public service, throughout which time he was elected as alderman for Mequon, a town of 25,000 residents.
MEQUON, WI, August 28, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Curtis C. Gielow has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Well-regarded for his abundant experience in government service, higher education and health care, Mr. Gielow has established himself as a prolific entrepreneur. With four successful businesses to his credit, he has most recently distinguished himself as the vice president of development at the Lifespace Foundation. Serving as the charitable arm of Lifespace Communities, a nonprofit retirement care network, the foundation raises funds through charitable donations that go toward the company's operations.
Outside of his work at the Lifespace Foundation, Mr. Gielow serves as the director and executive vice president of CU Ventures, an investment initiative for Concordia University that works to commercialize ideas, concepts, products and startup companies that are promulgated by the faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends of the university. Having previously served as the founding dean of the CU's School of Pharmacy in 2008, he subsequently earned distinction as the chief executive of the CU Michigan campus in Ann Arbor prior to his retirement in 2018. Notably, during his involvement with CU, Mr. Gielow's efforts yielded a period of significant revitalization and growth.
In addition to his achievements in establishing the CU School of Pharmacy, Mr. Gielow is particularly proud of the many years he spent in public service, throughout which time he was elected as alderman for Mequon, a town of 25,000 residents. At the time, each household in Mequon relied on its own private well, drawing water from an underground aquifer fed by Lake Superior, located 400 miles to the north.
Despite being situated on Lake Michigan, Mequon faced a water shortage, leading Mr. Gielow, who also experienced water scarcity at his golf course residence, to negotiate with local utility companies. After a six-year effort, he successfully arranged for the city of Mequon to purchase water from Milwaukee, ending their reliance on private wells. As a result, 6,000 people in Mequon now receive water from Lake Michigan, alleviating pressure on the depleted aquifer. After going on to serve as a Wisconsin state representative from 2003 to 2007, Mr. Gielow was subsequently elected as mayor of the city of Mequon in 2010.
A serial entrepreneur, Mr. Gielow has established four businesses, three of which sold successfully. He is also a former pharmacist and hospital chief executive. For his achievements in this capacity, he has received several accolades, including recognition as a Next-Generation Pharmacist of 2019 by Pharma Times, which also proclaimed him as their Civic Leader of the Year. Additionally, he was selected as Legislator of the Year by a regional medical society, and won a similar honor from the Wisconsin Hospital Association.
In accounting for his success, Mr. Gielow largely credits his faith and resilience, as well as his ability to maintain a positive mindset in the face of any and all challenges. Looking toward the future, he aspires to continue adhering to the tenets of his faith, make a positive impact on the world and, most importantly, witness the growth of his grandchildren, of whom he will be eternally proud.
