Dr. Lobati, a distinguished hospital physician at CoxHealth, has dedicated over 35 years to the medical profession. With a focus on managing adult patients and serving as a civil surgeon, he has made significant contributions to the health care industry. Since joining CoxHealth in 2016, he has seen and tended to patients, discharged them with prescribed medications or treatments and remained involved in end-of-life issues, including palliative and hospice care.
Prior to his current position, Dr. Lobati served as an assistant professor of clinical medicine and the director of the travel and immunization clinic at the University of Missouri Health Care from 2014 to 2016. Concurrently, he was a medical consultant for the Missouri Department of Mental Health. Before these roles, he contributed as an attending physician at Select Specialty Hospital from 2009 to 2014 and a traditional internal medicine physician at Mercy from 2006 to 2013.
Earlier in his career, Dr. Lobati served as an assistant professor of medicine and infectious disease at the University of Missouri-Columbia from 2004 to 2006. He was also a medical consultant on tuberculosis for the Missouri Department of Health during this period. His experience extends to being the lead emergency room triage physician at Marion VA Medical Center from 2001 to 2004 and clinical director of the sexually transmitted disease clinic at Kansas City Missouri Health Department from 1998 to 2001.
In order to pursue medical education, Dr. Lobati received a scholarship from the Cameroon government to study in Germany, where he earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Cologne in 1988 and a diploma in community health and tropical medicine from Heidelberg University in 1989. After practicing for four years with American missionary doctors in Cameroon, he pursued further training in the United States at their encouragement. He completed a residency in internal medicine at the Kansas City School of Medicine at the University of Missouri in 1996, followed by a fellowship in infectious disease at the same institution in 1998.
Dr. Lobati's extensive education also includes board certification in infectious diseases from the ABIM Foundation and certification from the American Board of Internal Medicine. He has also held medical licenses from both Missouri and Kansas Boards of Healing Arts since 1996.
In addition to his professional roles, Dr. Lobati is actively involved in several industry-related organizations. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and a member of the Infectious Diseases Society of America, the American Medical Association, The Missouri State Medical Association, the Society of Hospital Medicine and the Royal College of Physicians (London). His dedication to his field has been acknowledged with numerous Physician Recognition Awards with Commendation from the American Medical Association between 1999 and 2023.
Outside his professional duties, Dr. Lobati is deeply dedicated to civic pursuits. Since 2016, he has been a fundraiser, counselor and psychological support provider for the Southern Cameroon Ambazonia Community and has served as director of Show-Me Mercy since 2014.
Reflecting on his career, Dr. Lobati considers beating poliomyelitis in his youth as his most notable achievement. Despite being paralyzed in his left leg, his determination has led him to achieve remarkable success in his career. He is also proud of his journey from Africa to Europe and the United States, training for 10 years away from his home country.
Outside of his professional life, Dr. Lobati enjoys reading about history and spending time with his family. Moving forward, he aims to continue practicing medicine and helping people, driven by his faith as a Christian, supportive family, determination, hard work and persistence.
