Ms. Cowin is a distinguished professional with more than 30 years of experience in the fields of transit and rail and energy with a focus on infrastructure development and delivery with the tenants of environmental social governance. She currently serves as the senior vice president of global transportation ESG at AECOM, a role she has held since 2021. She also serves as the acting Transit Market Lead for the Americas. In this capacity, she supports large project teams in developing strategies to secure federal funding and collaborates with public agencies to ensure successful infrastructure delivery. Her global responsibilities include applying lessons learned from projects worldwide to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance sustainability and social impact. Additionally, she is for environmental sustainability and equity within AECOM's transportation division on a global scale.
Prior to her current role, Ms. Cowin was the vice president and West transit and rail market sector lead at AECOM from 2020 to 2021. From 2017 to 2021, she served as the Americas transportation NEPA permitting lead at AECOM. Her tenure at AECOM also includes her role as a senior program manager from 2015 to 2020, where she was instrumental in overseeing various strategic planning and project management initiatives.
From 2013 to 2015, Ms. Cowin held the title of transportation planning BD manager at URS Corporation, following her position as an environmental planning manager and regional business line leader for electric transmission and distribution at the same company from 2008 to 2013.
Before her time at URS, she served in multiple leadership roles including as the planning manager, corporate environmental manager, Austin office manager, and board director at LopezGarcia Group (LGGROUP) from 2001 to 2008. Her career began with roles such as environmental planner at Duke Engineering & Services from 1998 to 2001 and as geographic information systems manager at INTERA from 1996 to 1997.
Ms. Cowin's academic background includes a Bachelor of Arts in geography from the University of Texas at Austin, which she earned in 1995. She also completed the Women's Corporate Board Readiness Program at Santa Clara University Leavey School of Business. Her education laid the foundation for her career in environmental impact assessment, strategic planning and project and program management as well as board service.
Throughout her career, Ms. Cowin has been actively involved in several industry-related organizations. She is a board director and the co-chair of the environmental subcommittee for the American Public Transportation Association and a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors, the California Transit Association, the Silicon Valley Leadership Group, the Women Transportation Seminar, the Bay Area Council and the SPUR/San Francisco Bay Area Planning and Urban Research Association.
Ms. Cowin is proud of several key accomplishments in her career. Early on, she became a board director at a woman minority-owned firm in her 20s. Later, she led the global transit strategy with the global transit director for 3x growth in three years which was achieved. She developed a strategy to engage agencies and educate AECOM staff on how to incorporate environmental social governance into projects and programs. Additionally, she successfully advocated for fair compensation for women in her industry during her time in California.
Outside of her professional life, Ms. Cowin enjoys sailing, cooking and spending time outdoors. Looking ahead, she aims to return to her role as a board director for both private and public companies and aspires to transition into a C-suite position such as president or chief executive officer.
