Before focusing on his business, he served as the Chief of County Detective / Investigator Association of New Jersey for the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office, overseeing daily operations and ensuring compliance with agency protocols. His role also involved reviewing all internal affairs complaints filed against officers in Atlantic County. Mr. DeShields further honed his law enforcement skills as the captain of county investigators and commander of the Litigation Division and Crisis Negotiations Unit for the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office.
During the early stages of his career, Mr. DeShields gained valuable expertise through the Prosecutor's Office as lieutenant of county detectives, sergeant of county investigators, and a county investigator. Likewise, he was a patrol officer for the Department of Human Services and the Stockton Police Department and a part-time police officer in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Before establishing himself professionally, Mr. DeShields earned a Bachelor of Applied Science in criminal justice from Stockton University. Subsequently, he received a Master of Public Administration from the University of Phoenix and certifications from the Burlington County Police Academy, the New Jersey State Police Homicide School, and the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General.
Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, Mr. DeShields aligns himself with the New Jersey chapter of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives, the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police, the Investigator Association of New Jersey, the Atlantic County Chiefs of Police Association, and the International Association of Homicide Investigators. In conjunction with his work, Mr. DeShields contributes to his community through the New Jersey chapter of NOBLE.
In light of his professional achievements, Mr. DeShields has been honored with the FBI Service Recognition Award, the New Jersey PBA Outstanding Service Award, the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Muslim American Law Enforcement Association, the Atlantic City Police Foundation Outstanding Service Award, and the New Jersey State Chiefs Medal of Valor. While his career has been filled with highlights, Mr. DeShields takes the most pride in his lengthy law enforcement career, serving two terms as president of the chief of county detectives for the Investigators Association of New Jersey and being promoted to the chief of county detectives at the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office.
Though hard work and dedication have brought him far in his career, Mr. DeShields credits his success to his father, who was an exceptionally hard-working man, and his competitive nature. He intends to rebuild himself after a stroke and return to work stronger than ever.
