With a career spanning over three decades between the U.S. Army and Civilian Federal Service, he has demonstrated exceptional expertise in financial management and analysis, earning significant recognition for his contributions to the field.
Mr. Johnson's professional journey began in the U.S. Army, where he entered at the rank of Pvt. E-1 and served up to the rank of a master sergeant from 1984 to 2012. During his tenure, he participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, further honing his leadership skills in challenging environments. Following his military service, Mr. Johnson faced a period of homelessness but persevered through adversity.
In 2012, Mr. Johnson joined Spartan Business and Technology as a Senior Management Analyst. His role involved providing strategic insights and solutions to enhance business operations. The following year, he transitioned to the Veteran's Health Administration at Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital as a Medical Administrative Specialist in Human Resources. His commitment to improving veterans' services led him to the DC VA Medical Center, where he served as a Program and Management Analyst from 2013 to 2015.
Mr. Johnson's career continued to flourish when he joined the Department of the Navy's Naval District Washington (NOW) as a Program and Management Analyst in Manpower from 2015 to 2017. During his tenure with NOW, Mr. Johnson would use his personal time and lunch breaks to learn other skill sets which ultimately led to his experiences in financial management that have culminated in his assumption of his current role with the United States Navy.
Mr. Johnson's academic achievements have played a crucial role in his success. He holds a Master of Science in Information Management, earned in 2013, and a Bachelor of Science in multidisciplinary studies, obtained in 2010, both from the University of Arkansas Grantham. He is currently pursuing a doctorate, aiming to further enhance his knowledge and expertise.
Throughout his career, Mr. Johnson has been an active member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. He also serves in a civic capacity on the board of the Bailey Scholarship Foundation, as a volunteer at food drives and as a mentor to the next generation.
Mr. Johnson attributes his success to his faith and the support of his family, particularly his wife, who encouraged him to explore financial management. He is most proud of both being the first person in his family to retire from the military, achieve a master's degree, and be the only member to join and participate in a Black Greek Lettered Organization (BGLO) and soon to become a doctor.
Outside of his professional life, Mr. Johnson enjoys traveling and DJing old-school hip-hop and R&B music. Looking ahead, he plans to retire from federal service within the next decade and aims to complete his doctorate within two years. He is considering then returning to the federal government as a consultant in an executive or strategic leadership role, aspiring to secure multimillion-dollar contracts.
