Marquis Who's Who Honors Basil Lee Drew for Expertise in Education and Arts and Entertainment

    DAYTON, OH, September 05, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Basil Lee Drew has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Basil Drew's father is a noted musician and teacher of 60 years recognized in Carillon Historical Park in Dayton, Ohio and his mother was Business Woman Of the Year twice in Las Vegas.

He began his career directing four short films for the State Of Ohio as a senior on a full scholarship at Bowling Green State University. He earned a Master's Degree from Wesleyan University in Connecticut and a Certificate of Advanced Studies at Western Washington University. He was Artist in Residence sharing his talents with many local schools. He was Chairperson of Theatre at five private independent schools in Ohio, Connecticut, California, and two in Hawaii.

He was Writer, Producer and Actor for 239 episodes of the "Lee Drew Children's Hour" for the Canadian Broadcasting Company, worked on "Theater 1030," a national broadcast, on CBC Radio and appeared on stage in Repertory Theater in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. He hosted local events with Miss Canada. He has been an active member of Actors Equity Association, Screen Actors Guild and Association of Canadian Television and Radio Artists as well as the American Federation of Television Radio Artists.

In Ohio he was a Film Critic for WOHO Radio in Toledo with audience call in participation and he predicted 17 Academy Award recipients the year he was on air.

It was the seventeen years in California where he taught, directed and acted on LA stages and served as Show Director at Disneyland in Anaheim.

It was at Harvard Westlake where he directed young actors of notable fame: producer Charlie Matthau, writer Matt Weiner, Emmy winner for The Sopranos and Mad Men, actors Jake and Maggie Gyllenhaal, Tori Spelling, Breck Eisner, Emmy Peck and Osgood Perkins whose most recent directorial film, Longlegs, opened this year. When Osgood was a senior his father, Anthony Perkins asked if he could assistant direct with Drew on the school production of Frankenstein shortly before his death. Tony Perkins' sons Elvis and Osgood lost their mother, Barry Barrinson, the following year on 9/11 when she was a first and last time visitor to the Twin Towers.

Drew hosted Perkins, Mark Harmon, Tom Bosley, Gavin McCloud, Richard Thomas and others in his classroom in whole school assemblies at Harvard-Westlake in Los Angeles.

He also recalls a seventh grade suit and tie student who became Mayor of Los Angeles, Eric Garcetti.

Drew's movie career has seen several independent shorts and feature length films. "Irreconcilable Differences" with Ryan O'Neal, Sharon Stone and Drew Barrymore. "Disturbed" starring Malcolm McDowell directed by Charles Winkler, son of Irwin Winkler, in which he plays an LA police officer and "Leather Jackets" acting with D.B. Sweeney and Bridget Fonda. He is an Associate Producer and plays a brain surgeon in a faith-based film due to release late 2024 entitled "Our Crossroads."

He is most proud of his stage work as Artistic Director for Kizarr Repertory Company in Hawaii and his favorite challenging role as Dr. Dysart in "Equus" in Western Washington's Summer Stock. He has directed over 100 productions and as an actor he was given The Blackburn Award for Excellence playing Colonel Jessup in Aaron Sorkin's stage play "A Few Good Men." The role Jack Nicholson was nominated for in the film version.
