As the risk and internal control program manager for the U.S. Navy since 2021, she has been responsible for overseeing 30 headquarter commands and their subordinates, ensuring compliance with the Office of Management and Budget and Government Accountability Office regulations to implement risk management and internal controls.
Ms. Johnson's government career began while still a student at Granby High School in Norfolk, VA when she was hired as an intern in the Department of Justice. She resigned her position after graduating high school and rejoined the government in 2005 as a college student, where she was as an intern for the Department of Defense. After graduating college, Ms. Johnson joined the Department of the Navy financial management trainee career program. Over the years, she has held various significant roles, including financial management analyst at the NOLSC from 2009 to 2010 and Deputy Comptroller at the Bureau of Medicine, Naval Health Clinic in Quantico, Virginia, between 2010 and 2013. Ms. Johnson also served as the Deputy Finance Director at the Department of Veterans Affairs Office of Research and Development from 2013 to 2014 before becoming the Evaluation Prioritization Remediation program manager for the Assistant Secretary of the Navy's Office of Financial Operations between 2014 and 2016. Before her current role, she was the Financial Improvement and Audit Readiness (FIAR) Manager at Field Support Activity from 2016 to 2021.
Ms. Johnson holds a Bachelor of Science in accounting from Strayer University since 2006 and a Master of Public Administration from Keller Graduate School of Management at DeVry University since 2010. She is currently pursuing a Doctor in Strategic Leadership at Liberty University. Adding to her success, Ms. Johnson has completed several certifications, including the Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Program, Chief Financial Officer Program at the National Defense University's College of Information and Cyberspace in 2019, the Leadership Development Program from Naval Air Systems Command in 2021 and an Executive Certificate in Strategic Leadership from Liberty University in 2024.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Ms. Johnson is actively involved in the Society of Defense Financial Management, an industry-related organization where she has earned the Certified Defense Financial Manager with Acquisition specialty. Her contributions extend to civic associations, where she currently performs community service with the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, Omicron Theta Zeta Chapter in Fairfax, VA and serves as the Vice President of the Omicron Theta Zeta Scholarship Foundation as well as a scholarship reviewer for the Bailey Family Foundation. Previously, Ms. Johnson served as a Girl Scout Troop Leader and the Vice President of Fundraising for the Girl Scouts of Colonial Coast.
As a testament to her hard work, Ms. Johnson has received numerous awards, including the ASN FM&C Group Award for Process Improvement in 2012, Senior Civilian of the Quarter by the Naval Health Clinic Quantico in 2012, and the Spirit of Service Award from the U.S. Department of Defense in 2020. Ms. Johnson has also been recognized for her work in the community by the Girl Scout Council of the Colonial Coast with several Appreciation Awards. She attributes her success to her faith and family; both instilled in her the importance of education and perseverance, her high school guidance counselor, Evelyn Lee, and her many mentors for always encouraging her to strive further.
