Her education began with a Bachelor of Science in biology from Idaho State University in 2006; she later earned a Doctor of Physical Therapy from the University of Colorado Denver and completed a Master of Public Health in global disaster management, homeland security and humanitarian aid from the University of South Florida in 2023. These academic achievements have been instrumental in shaping her career and enabling her to make significant contributions to her field.
In addition to her degrees, Dr. Mitchell's certifications further underscore her commitment to excellence and preparedness in emergency situations. In 2023, she obtained certification in Prevention and Management Of Stress in Humanitarian Context from Delphine Martin-Devaux. She also holds certifications as a Hospital Emergency Response Team and Educator from the Center for Domestic Preparedness and as a CBRNE Level B from the same institution.
Dr. Mitchell's passion for physical therapy was ignited in eighth grade when she dislocated her knee, an injury that required rehabilitation. This early experience laid the foundation for her future career. In 2017, while taking a class on emergency response for sideline sports medicine during Hurricane Harvey, she realized the critical role physical therapists could play in emergency situations. This epiphany led her to pursue specialized training at the Center for Domestic Preparedness in Anniston, Alabama, where she gained valuable skills in handling various emergency scenarios.
In addition to her professional roles, Dr. Mitchell is actively involved in civic organizations. She has been part of Field Operations with Team Rubicon in Denver since 2020 and served as a volunteer instructor for Lakewood CERT with the city of Lakewood from 2018 to 2023. She also contributed as volunteer staff for Omega Search and Rescue and was associated with GAT Wellness through Team Rubicon.
