HAMPTON, GA September 12, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Cynthia Strickland Jewell, Ed.S, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mrs. Jewell is a distinguished leader in the field of education, currently serving as the Chief Executive Officer and founder of Educating Jewels LLC since 2020. With nearly 30 years of experience in her profession, she has dedicated her career to leadership development, working closely with leaders in the Metro Atlanta area. She works with principals to strengthen relationships, identify core values, take the lead in instructional learning, and focus on internal processes to help them effectively manage and navigate their schools.
Mrs. Jewell began her career as a paraprofessional in an elementary school in Atlanta Public Schools, followed by six years of experience as an elementary school teacher at the same DeKalb County school she attended as a student. Her success in the classroom earned her a promotion to Assistant Principal, a position she held for five years. In 2012, she became a Principal in Atlanta Public Schools. In 2016, she transitioned to being a Principal in Henry County Schools, where she led with determination and passion until being promoted to Senior Director of School Support. She earned this promotion after her school saw a 32-point increase on Georgia's College and Career Readiness Performance Index (CCRPI), improving the school's rating from an F to a C in just one school year.
Mrs. Jewell held the role of Senior Director of School Support for Henry County Schools from 2019 to 2021. During this time, she made significant contributions to the field by coaching 14 elementary principals until 2021. In 2021, she transitioned to the role of Principal Supervisor for the Griffin-Spalding County School System, serving in that capacity until 2023.
In June of 2023, Mrs. Jewell opted to transition into full-time principal coaching and leadership development facilitation. This pivot, perceived as a divine calling, addressed the critical demand for enhanced instructional leadership coaching. It empowered her to expand her influence, driving significant improvements in teacher efficacy, elevating student performance metrics, and catalyzing comprehensive school transformation across the state of Georgia. Additionally, she has served as a consultant for Georgia State University's Principals Center since 2020, contributing her expertise to further leadership excellence.
Mrs. Jewell's academic achievements have been instrumental in her professional success. She holds an Educational Specialist Degree from Lincoln Memorial University, a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Central Michigan University and a Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education and Teaching from Mercer University. Also in 2019, Mrs. Jewell was featured in the book, "Passionate Leadership: Creating a Culture of Success in Every School" for the work she led as principal. In 2020, Mrs. Jewell received a proclamation from the mayor and city council of Stockbridge, Georgia. Cynthia was featured among African American Educational Leaders to Know by TheSchoolHouse302 Blog in 2021. In 2021, she was also the recipient of Georgia Leadership Institute for School Improvement's (GLISI) Hidden Hero Contest. She graduated from the National Principal Supervisor Academy through The School Superintendents Association in 2022.
Mrs. Jewell is also actively involved in various industry-related organizations, serving as the National Vice President of Black Women Education Leaders, a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and a member of the Georgia Association of Elementary School Principals. Long dedicated to civic advocacy, she volunteers with Beulah Baptist Church, Cross Culture 365 Ministries, and several schools within the metropolitan Atlanta area. Notably, Mrs. Jewell's dedication and commitment to Georgia students was formally recognized with a commendation from the Georgia House of Representatives in 2014.
While she has received countless awards and commendations, she considers her greatest gift as being able to serve. Because Mrs. Jewell touches the lives of hundreds of leaders, teachers, students, and their families daily, she views her career in education as a ministry instead of a job.
Looking ahead, Mrs. Jewell aims to become a keynote speaker on a national platform while continuing to give back to local school systems and churches through financial contributions and scholarships. She plans to establish an annual $500 scholarship for the Georgia Elementary Principal of the Year specifically for professional development, reflecting her unwavering devotion to the field of education.
Mrs. Jewell is married to Jasper E. Jewell, the former Director of Athletics for Atlanta Public Schools. They are the proud parents of two children, Christopher and Sydney.
