Her responsibilities include performing minor procedures in the operating room, managing acute care patients with conditions such as abdominal and chest pains, and collaborating with specialists to ensure prompt follow-up consultations. Mrs. Andaya's career began at the El Camino Hospital, where she served as chief physician assistant in orthopedics and sports medicine from 2007 to 2014. She subsequently advanced to the role of senior physician assistant in general surgical services at Kaiser Permanente from 2015 to 2016. Subsequently, she joined the Comprehensive Spine and Sports Center as a physician assistant between 2016 and 2018 before taking on her current role at Sutter Health.
In addition to her professional accomplishments, Mrs. Andaya is actively involved in civic-minded organizations as a volunteer educational lecturer for local athletes. As a speaker at various conferences, she continues to share her insights and experiences with others in the field. She has also received such accolades as the Top Physician Assistant Award from Los Gatos Top Doc in 2023.
Throughout her career, Mrs. Andaya has been committed to sharing her knowledge and expertise with new graduates, new hires, and individuals interested in pursuing a career as a physician assistant. She speaks at local conferences and provides mentorship to incoming PA students online, as well as to old college and high school friends. Mrs. Andaya finds great fulfillment in service as a mentor and teacher. Likewise, building trust and meaningful relationships with patients has been particularly rewarding for her, as she plays a pivotal role in their care and potential life-changing diagnoses.
Mrs. Andaya's academic achievements have laid a strong foundation for her successful career. After earning a Bachelor of Arts in sports science, with a major in sports medicine, from the University of the Pacific in 1999, she went on to receive a master's degree in sports medicine from the United States Sports Academy in 2001. Her certifications include basic life support for health care providers from the American Heart Association, a physician assistant license from the Medical Board of California, a certified physician assistant from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants, a certificate of clinical proficiency in physician assistant studies from Stanford University School of Medicine, and a certified athletic trainer.
Mrs. Andaya attributes her success to her close relationship with her late father, whose unwavering support for her career as an athletic trainer was a significant influence on her journey. She also appreciates the strong rapport she builds with her patients in urgent care and is grateful for the love and encouragement of her husband. Despite personal and health struggles, Mrs. Andaya has maintained a never-give-up attitude and remains dedicated to her passion.
Outside of her career, Mrs. Andaya enjoys spending time with her two daughters. Looking toward the future, she is set to begin a Doctorate of Medical Science program at the University of Lynchburg in Virginia. She hopes to use this opportunity to gain more knowledge about the administrative side of medicine and is considering a future career in teaching.
