    WESTERLY, RI, September 13, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- William Keun Chan Park, PhD, has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. Dr. Park is a distinguished research scientist with over 50 publications in peer-reviewed journals and a number of issued patents. He is a founding partner and chief scientific officer at Theromics Inc., where he has been instrumental in overseeing all research and product development activities including HeatSYNC Gel and CryoSYNC Gel for the thermal ablation of tumors since 2017. Recently, for the discovery of HeatSYNC Gel, he received a National Science Foundation award (STTR Phase I and II), a career milestone. This product is currently in its final development before seeking FDA approval.

Prior to his current position, Dr. Park served as the director of molecular imaging at Rhode Island Hospital and as assistant professor at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University from 2010 to 2017. During this period, he invented the HeatSYNC Gel designed to significantly improve the performance of the thermal ablation of tumors, revolutionizing focal tumor removal procedures.

From 2007 to 2009, Dr. Park co-founded and served as chief executive officer of P&H Therapeutics Inc., where he focused on the development of a novel blood pressure drug. Previously, he was a senior principal scientist at Pfizer from 2001 to 2007. In this capacity, he led a team in developing the second generation of Lipitor, a novel statin that effectively lowers LDL cholesterol while aiming to eliminate myalgia and related side effects.

Dr. Park's early career includes a postdoctoral fellowship in chemistry at The Scripps Research Institute from 1995 to 1997. There, he made significant advancements in combinatorial chemistry through the development of the UGI reaction, which allows for the creation of various chemical structures in a single pot, expediting the drug discovery process.

Dr. Park's academic journey began with a Bachelor's degree in 1989 and a Master of Science in physical organic chemistry in 1992 from Queen's University, Canada. He subsequently earned a PhD in synthetic organic chemistry from the University of Ottawa, Canada, in 1995. His educational background laid a strong foundation for his subsequent achievements in the field of chemistry and drug discovery. Throughout his career, Dr. Park has maintained his affiliation with such relevant organizations as the American Chemical Society, the Society of Interventional Oncology (a founding member), and the Society for Thermal Medicine.

Outside his professional life, Dr. Park enjoys hiking, music, and cooking. He is a former chairman of the board for the Rhode Island Korean-American Association. He attributes his success to his unwavering focus on a wide range of interests including advancing cancer treatments and drug discovery in atherosclerosis over the past 30 years and the values instilled by his parents to contribute to society in a meaningful way through science.
