Mr. Cassin, a distinguished professional in law enforcement and education, has made significant contributions to his field for over 15 years. Serving as the deputy director and then director of the East Texas Police Academy at Kilgore College since 2014, he oversees extensive training programs for peace officers, dispatchers and telecommunicators, jailers and detention officers seeking licensing. Under his leadership, the academy has trained over 22,000 students and conducted more than 100,000 total hours of training. At the age of 29, he became the youngest director in the history of the East Texas Police Academy, where his most significant achievement has been his extensive training at the academy, particularly in implementing a variety of new training courses and curriculums.
Concurrent to Mr. Cassin's director roles, he has been an adjunct faculty member in criminal justice at Kilgore College since 2013 and a deputy sheriff for the Gregg County Sheriff's Office since 2011. He began his career in law enforcement as a police officer with the San Mateo Police Department from 2007 to 2009 and with the Tyler Police Department from 2009 until 2010.
Mr. Cassin's academic background has been instrumental in shaping his career, providing him with a solid foundation in both theoretical and practical aspects of criminal justice. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in history from the Virginia Military Institute in 2007, followed by a Master of Science in criminal justice from Boston University, which he acquired in 2013. His dedication to law enforcement education is further evidenced by his involvement with the International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainers Association and the International Association of Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Mr. Cassin holds numerous certifications that enhance his capabilities as an instructor and law enforcement officer. These include active shooter response level one instructor from Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training, advanced instructor from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) and master peace officer from TCOLE, among several others.
Outside his professional life, Mr. Cassin is deeply involved in civic activities. He volunteers for various projects, including providing church security and advising local churches on security plans. His commitment to community service is a testament to his dedication to making a positive impact beyond his professional responsibilities.
