Prior to obtaining his role with Merit America, Mr. Perera worked as the university recruiter for Uber, a recruiting coordinator for Slack, and as a program manager at Florida International University.
During the early stages of his career, Mr. Perera gained valuable expertise in the field with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the University of Florida, where he honed his leadership skills and administrative assistance. Similarly, he held numerous roles with Bowling Green State University, including program assistant, event planning and volunteer management intern, and onboarding and event planning coordinator.
An expert in his field, Mr. Perera earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with minors in educational studies and family, youth, and community sciences from the University of Florida and a Master of Arts from Bowling Green State University in 2013 and 2015 respectively. Over the years, he has expanded on his professional knowledge by completing certifications in project management, onboarding, workflow building, and SQL through Coursera, LinkedIn, and Slack. Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, Mr. Perera was affiliated with Family Engagement in Higher Education, the Association for Orientation, Transition & Retention in Higher Education, and the Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education.
In conjunction with his work, Mr. Perera has contributed to his community as a resume reviewer, mock interviewer, and member of the National and Regional Conference Planning Committees for The Association for Orientation, Transition & Retention in Higher Education. For his outstanding body of work, he has been honored many times, earning a nomination for the Presidential Excellence Award at Florida International University and several awards from Bowling Green State University, including the President's Award for Distinguished Service, the Community Spirit Award, the Outstanding Spirit Award, an Outstanding Graduate Student Award, and the Dr. Carloyn Palmer Diversity Enhancement Scholarship.
While his career has been filled with highlights, Mr. Perera takes the most pride in facilitating a 16-week professional development course for Merit America, helping those in need find employment, and bring people together through his work at Florida International University. The cornerstone of his success lies in his upbringing. His parents instilled in him the importance of education and served as an example of hard work and dedication. Within the coming years, Mr. Perera would like to obtain a leadership role or serve as a mentor.
