Marquis Who's Who Honors Melody Ge for Expertise in Food Safety

Melody Ge is recognized for her work as a Founder of Women in Food Safety.



    BETHESDA, MD, September 17, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Melody Ge has been recognized for her inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Ms. Ge is recognized for her expertise as a founder of Women in Food Safety and serves as Sr. Director of Food Safety & Quality Operations at TreeHouse Foods Inc, a US trusted private label manufacturer. At TreeHouse, Ms. Ge oversees the manufacturer facilities and fosters positive foods safety and quality culture. Prior to that, she was the Food Safety and Quality Assurance Director at StarKist Co. Ms. Ge utilizes her expertise in data science and food safety science to build a smarter food safety and quality system for the business. The community she creates for women in food safety carries a mission of pipelining the future female leaderships in the industry.

Ms. Ge's career in food safety began at SQF Institute, a GFSI-certified program owner (CPO), where she was responsible for the integrity and compliance program and the technical support to the SQF Code development. Before joining StarKist Co., Ms. Ge worked at Corvium (now called Neogen Analytics), where she progressed from head of compliance in 2019 to vice president of governance, intelligence, and analytics in 2021. Ms. Ge also contributed her expertise as a senior food safety consultant through various roles, including Lidl US; at Lidl, Ms. Ge was the first of several employees to develop the HQ's food safety and quality assurance team.

Before her focus shifted entirely to food safety, Ms. Ge was instrumental in the early days of Beyond Meat as the technical director responsible for research and development and quality assurance between 2009 and 2012. Her work led to the launch of the company's first products in Whole Foods in Maryland, marking a significant milestone in her career and the plant-based protein sector. This experience ignited Ms. Ge's passion for public health and consumer safety, guiding her career choices.

Ms. Ge has spoken at numerous conferences in her area of expertise, beginning in 2014 at the Food Safety and Pest Management Symposium at the SQF Institute. She also spoke at the institute's SQF International Conference in 2014 and at the DFA of California Food Safety Conference in 2015 on behalf of the SQF Institute. In addition, she was invited as a speaker for the Food Safety Consortium in 2019, Congreso de Inocuidad de los Alimentos en Cancun, and the Food Safety Summit in 2024.

Ms. Ge pursued an education at Shanghai Ocean University, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in food science and technology in 2009. Subsequently, she received a Master of Science in food science from the University of Maryland in 2011. Ms. Ge furthered her education with certifications from Villanova University as a Six Sigma Black Belt and from various institutions in data science and food safety preventive controls. She also received credentials as a yoga instructor through Yoga Alliance. Ms. Ge is also a FSMA Preventive Control Lead Instructor. Ms. Ge speaks seven languages, including English, Mandarin, Korean and French.

In addition to her professional endeavors, Ms. Ge is actively involved with several industry-related organizations. She is a member of the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) and the International Association for Food Protection (IAFP) and chairs the food safety culture professional development group (PDG) at IAFP. Ms. Ge's contributions extend to serving on committees for the Food Safety Tech, the SQF Institute demonstrating her commitment to advancing food safety standards.

Outside of her industry-related affiliations, Ms. Ge is passionate about promoting women in food safety and creating a legacy. In 2020, she founded Women in Food Safety, a group that has grown to over 3,000 followers and 1,000 members dedicated to fostering a supportive community that aids in bridging the gap between academics and industry to pipeline future leadership.

In light of her success, Ms. Ge won First Place in an IFT poster competition for product development in 2013.
