Marquis Who's Who Honors Joshua A. Seldess for Expertise in Education

Joshua A. Seldess honored for his leadership and dedication to education and fostering an inclusive environment



Prior to his current position, Mr. Seldess was the interim principal at Orrington Elementary School from 2023 to 2024. During his tenure, the school received two prestigious awards from the district.

    DEERFIELD, IL, September 18, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Joshua A. Seldess has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Mr. Seldess is a distinguished educator with more than 25 years of experience in the field of education. Currently, he serves as the assistant principal of diversity, equity and inclusion at Highland Park High School within the Township High School District 113. In this role, he works within the multi-tiered system of support framework to identify students who are struggling academically, behaviorally or emotionally. He also collaborates with deans and guidance counselors to address the social and emotional needs of students in the school building.

Prior to his current position, Mr. Seldess was the interim principal at Orrington Elementary School from 2023 to 2024. During his tenure, the school received two prestigious awards from the district. The first award recognized the school's improvement in socio-emotional learning data for their students, with an impressive 90 percent of fifth graders expressing a sense of belonging. The second award acknowledged that all English language learners met the benchmark on their math tests, a significant achievement for the school.

From 2016 to 2023, Mr. Seldess served as an assistant principal at Nichols Middle School. Prior to that role, he was the history division head at Oak Park and River Forest High School from 2012 to 2016. His career in education began at New Trier High School, where he worked from 1996 to 2012. During this time, he transitioned from teaching high school social studies to the role of boys adviser chair; in 2001, joining the leadership team responsible for setting up a new campus exclusively for ninth graders.

Mr. Seldess' educational background laid the foundation for his success. He earned a Bachelor of Science in psychology from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign followed by a Master of Science in secondary education and teaching from DePaul University in 2002. He also holds a Master of Science in educational leadership from Northeastern Illinois University, earned in 2007.

In addition to his professional achievements, Mr. Seldess is a member of the Illinois Principals Association. His expertise in equity in education has been widely recognized and praised throughout his career. He is especially proud of his recent dedication to creating and implementing a comprehensive work plan and setting the school building up for success. He attributes his achievements to his personal values and emphasizes the importance of being led by those values.

Mr. Seldess enjoys traveling, exercising and spending time with his family and friends. Looking ahead, he aims to support Highland Park High School in achieving success and advancing the progress of its English language learners. Additionally, he plans to venture into consulting and engage in discussions with local and national districts on addressing various challenges, most particularly those associated with equity in education.
