Astrid R. Baumgardner, JD, coaches professional classical musicians for career development



    NEW YORK, NY, September 18, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Astrid R. Baumgardner, JD, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Drawing upon more than four decades of professional experience, Ms. Baumgardner is well-regarded in the field of professional development for her expertise in coaching leaders of arts organizations, professional classical musicians, women lawyers and artists seeking new ventures in entrepreneurship. Since 2008, she has excelled as the president of Astrid Baumgardner Coaching + Training, providing individual life, executive and career coaching services to musicians, lawyers, and creative professionals. Impressively, Ms. Baumgardner also leads professional development workshops at various arts organizations, as well as develops leadership programs on the science of happiness, career planning, goal setting, networking and communication, conflict and time management, and work-life balance. To wit, she has served as a the lead faculty member of the OPERA America Leadership Intensive since 2013. Alongside her endeavors in professional coaching and development, Ms. Baumgardner is on the faculty at the Yale University School of Music, serving as a guest lecturer turned lecturer since 2010. At Yale, she taught the course "Creating Sustajnable Careers in the Arts" between 2011 and 2014 and since 2015, she has been teaching "Careers in Music: Collaborative Leadership To Advance Creativity, Innovation and New Opportunities in the Arts" for graduate conservatory music students. Notably, she created a novel curriculum incorporating positive psychology, emotional intelligence, creative problem-solving, design thinking and collaborative leadership, which has proven invaluable to Yale University's course offerings. In addition, she created and led Yale University School of Music's Office of Career Strategies from 2011 to 2022 and since 2024, she has also served at The School of Music as a career coach to graduate music conservatory students. Previously lending her expertise to the Mannes College of Music at The New School, the Manhattan School of Music, Stetson University and Mount Holyoke College, Ms. Baumgardner also has guest lectured in the "Lunch & Learn Series" and in the entrepreneurship classes at The Juilliard School since 2010. Likewise, she has been a guest lecturer at Western University since 2015 where she has taught courses on career planning and the science of happiness.

Earlier in her career, Ms. Baumgardner served in the legal sector between 1976 and 2000, working with such prominent law firms as Weil, Gotshal & Manges and Debevoise & Plimpton as an associate, Edwards & Angell as a senior associate, and O'Melveny & Myers as a partner. Before departing from the legal industry, she was a New York partner/counsel at Gide Loyrette Nouel between 1985 and 2000, where she advised French clients ru.1d Parisian partners on the United States market and client development, serving as a liaison and cultural interpreter between Fra11ce and the United States. Ms. Baumgardner transitioned to a career in the arts, serving as the Vice President of Operations and then Deputy Executive Director of the French Institute Alliance Française from 2000 to 2003. She continued her career in the nonprofit sector as a pro bono independent consultant and provider of strategic management advisory services to nonprofit arts organizations until 2007.

Highly educated, Ms. Baumgardner was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and graduated magna cum laude from Mount Holyoke College with a Bachelor of Arts in 1973. She graduated in 1976 with a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the Rutgers University School of Law, where she was a member of the Rutgers Law Review between 1974 and 1976. She is also the recipient of a Certificate in Happiness Studies from the Happiness Studies Academy, a Professional Certified Coach credential from the International Coaching Federation, and a Certified Professional Coach certificate from the Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching.

Demonstrating versatility in her profession, Ms. Baumgardner published the book "Creative Success Now: How Creatives Can Thrive in the 21st Century" in 2019, which is available for purchase on Amazon and in Barnes & Noble bookstores. Notably, "Creative Success Now" details the secrets to creative success as experienced by Ms. Baumgardner's clients and students over her many decades of teaching and coaching. As a public speaker, Ms. Baumgardner gave a TEDx talk on Cracking the Code on Creativity in 2020 and was twice invited to speak at the Dallas Symphony Women in Classical Music Symposium in 2021 and 2022. She was also a featured speaker at Inspiring Yale in 2017, representing the Yale School of Music. In addition, Ms. Baumgardner has been featured in several podcasts and newspapers, was profiled by Forbes.com in 2019 and Readers Digest Canada in 2016, and has maintained a blog on leadership in the arts, the science of well-being and career development in the arts since 2010.
