Throughout his career, he also made significant contributions as a museum specialist at the Smithsonian Institution's National Air and Space Museum from 2019 to 2023. During his tenure, Mr. Hammond played an integral role in the extensive redesign of the museum, relocating over thousands of items, including entire airplanes, and contributing to the installation of several new galleries.
Mr. Hammond's earlier career included positions such as art and artifact handler at Crozier Fine Arts from 2018 to 2019 and assistant registrar at Agora Gallery in 2018. In addition to his primary career roles, he held various other positions that have enriched his professional journey. Mr. Hammond's diverse background included working at SwimBox in Sterling, Virginia, as a swimming instructor from 2020 to 2021, at the Northport Yacht Club in Northport, New York, as an assistant swim coach in 2017 and at the Quaker Heritage Center in Wilmington, Ohio, as a student assistant director from 2014 to 2016.
Highly educated, Mr. Hammond received a Bachelor of Arts in history and educational studies, cum laude, from Wilmington College in 2016 and a Master of Arts in museum administration from Saint John's University in 2018. While pursuing his degrees, he also completed an internship and served as a graduate research assistant. During his college years, Mr. Hammond was named an Academic All-OAC Athlete by the Ohio Athletic Conference in 2015 and 2016 and was recognized with a Charles J. Ping Student Service Award from the Ohio Campus Compact in 2016.
Mr. Hammond is a professional member of the American Alliance of Museums. He is also a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity and the Order of Omega Greek Honor Society. Mr. Hammond's commitment to service is also evident through his extensive volunteer work within his local community. He served as a service leader and executive board president for the Center for Service and Civic Engagement in Wilmington from 2014 to 2016.
