Accumulating more than 40 years of experience in the health care sector given her professional achievements, Ms. Hensley won a Letter of Recognition for Nursing Service and a Special Advancement For Outstanding Performance In Nursing Services from the VA Medical Center in San Francisco. Ms. Hensley is a respected registered nurse who in 2012 founded a cancer support group affiliated with Brian Henderson, MD. Committed to counseling patients that are nearing the end of chemotherapy treatment so that they can better readjust to life after cancer. After Dr. Henderson retired the office merged in January 2013 with CA Cancer Care, San Mateo; then in Jan. 2020 CA Cancer Care merged with University of California, San Francisco. Durning this time Judy continued facilitating the Support Group which is still meeting twice a month. Ms. Hensley's nursing career began in Minnesota. She relocated to San Francisco where she became head nurse on the medical-oncology unit for the Veterans Administration Medical Center between 1982 and 1989. Ms. Hensley worked in home care as a visiting nurse for the CHS Home Health Agency in San Francisco for 10 years and was a cancer care nurse for Dr. Henderson in San, Mateo, California for more than 15 years.
Ms. Hensley contributed an article in the March 1991 edition of the American Journal of Nursing titled 'Continuous SC Morphine for Cancer Pain.' She also contributed to an advanced nursing textbook on the topic of bed sores. An avid writer, Ms. Hensley recently completed her first children's book, titled "I Don't Want to Say Goodbye," which talks about what happens when family or pets die and how to handle the associated emotions. She is presently working on a book about end of life planning for adults.
Apart from her extensive career in the health care sector, Ms. Hensley owned and operated her own gift basket business for more than a decade. Working out of her brother's warehouse, she made gift baskets for companies, which were shipped throughout the world. A very successful business venture, Ms. Hensley would often make 40 to 50 gift baskets for one company at a time.
Locally active. Ms. Hensley is a member of the San Francisco Peninsula Writers Club, which is a branch of the California Writers Club.
