She observes and gathers data on how leaders carry out their day-to-day tasks, conducts coaching meetings, reviews the effectiveness of programs, updates training and resources as needed and evaluates their efficacy for stakeholders. Her role is pivotal in driving forward projects that support student achievement through effective staff training and development.
In addition to her role at Alpha Public Schools, Dr. Carlson has been a coach for the All Means All program since 2022. This organization focuses on inclusive education for all learners, ensuring that students with Individual Education Plans and disabilities are fully represented in all aspects of school life. She was part of the first group of leaders to go through the program and has served as a coach for several years.
Dr. Carlson's career began as an elementary teacher at Brentwood Academy from 2009 to 2011. She then served as a school leader and teacher at Aspire Public Schools from 2011 to 2017. During this period, she was honored by the Mayor of the City of South Gate for directing an elementary school in 2011. Concurrent with this role, she served a two-year tenure as an adjunct instructor at California State University-Dominguez Hills. Following this, she took on the role of principal at Endeavor College Prep from 2017 to 2018 before joining Alpha Public Schools.
Dr. Carlson is most proud of her ability to identify opportunities and challenges leveraging resources to move projects forward, particularly in education. She has witnessed the positive impact of staff training and development on supporting student achievement.
Serving as a foundation for her professional career, Dr. Carlson holds a Doctor of Education in educational leadership and administration from California State University, Fullerton, earned in 2016. She also holds a Master of Arts in secondary education and teaching from the University of Southern California, completed in 2011, and a Bachelor of Science in child and adolescent development from California State University, Fullerton, obtained in 2009. Her academic background has been instrumental in shaping her career and expertise in educational leadership, coaching, project management and change management.
Professionally, Dr. Carlson's affiliations include membership in the California Teachers Association, participation in teacher and administrative unions, membership in charter organizations and her role as a coach for All Means All. In a civic capacity, she is actively involved in her church and supports missionaries in other countries as well as Christian radio.
Outside her professional life, Dr. Carlson enjoys spending time with her two children and is dedicated to continuing her personal growth while fostering support for others. She aims to find solutions to prevent burnout among leaders across all sectors and hopes to support mid-to-senior level leaders in navigating an ever-evolving world.
