Before his tenure at Resideo Technologies Inc., Mr. Young had a significant career at Honeywell International Inc. as a senior mechanical engineer from 2005 to 2018. During this period, he achieved notable success as part of a team that designed a next-generation water heater gas valve control and pilot burner assembly in 2008 and 2009. This device became the standard control used in almost every gas water heater in North America, significantly increasing market share. Mr. Young's journey into the field began with an internship at Honeywell International Inc. from 2004 to 2005, where he worked on various thermostat projects. His dedication and performance during the internship ultimately led to a full-time position with the company.
A graduate of the University of Minnesota, Mr. Young earned a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering in 2005. He further enhanced his skills by obtaining a Six Sigma black belt certification from Honeywell International Inc. in 2010.
Throughout his career, Mr. Young has been awarded over 30 patents for his contributions to gas valve technology and burner control systems. Some of his notable patents include a gas valve with a communication link, a gas valve with high/low gas pressure detection and a gas valve with an electronic proof of closure system.
Mr. Young is actively involved in industry-related organizations. He is active in the controls for gas-fired utilization equipment subsection engineering committee under the Air-Conditioning Heating and Refrigeration Institute and the ANSI Z21/Canadian Standards Association joint technical sub-committee on standards for automatic gas controls, and is recognized internationally as a leading gas valve technical expert.
Outside of his professional life, Mr. Young is committed to giving back to his community through his church, and through providing support to several private schools.
Mr. Young is a devoted husband and father. In his spare time, he enjoys taking trips with his wife Katie and two sons, and spending time at their lake place in northern MN.
Mr. Young aims to advance to a management position and eventually become a director or technical fellow within his field. As a co-founder of two separate small companies, he also has a dream of growing his side businesses large enough that he can one day step away from corporate life and be an independent small business owner, which he views not only through the lens of self-interest, but also as a great privilege and duty as part of the American dream. He attributes his success thus far to hard work and the values instilled by his parents, which have guided him throughout his career and personal life, driving him toward continuous growth and excellence in his endeavors.
