Over the years, Dr. McConkey honed his expertise in the U.S. Air Force Reserve as a commander, an Air Force Association council member, a senior flight surgeon, a chief of hospital services, and a critical care air transport team director. Simultaneously, he worked for several medical entities, including Georgetown Family Emergency Center, Blackwater Medical Limited, Summa Health, Premier Physician Services, and MEP, a physician staffing and healthcare consulting company. Due to his vast knowledge, Dr. McConkey also served as an assistant and adjunct professor at Duke University.
During the early stages of his career, Dr. McConkey served his country through the Army National Guard as a medical service corps officer, flight surgeon, battalion surgeon, and chief of aviation medicine. Before entering the military, he earned a Bachelor of Science in human biology from Chadron State College and an MD from the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Dedicated to furthering his knowledge, Dr. McConkey has also received certifications through the National Defense University, USAF Air War College, the American Board of Emergency Medicine, and the Air Command and Staff College.
Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, Dr. McConkey aligns himself with the American Board of Emergency Medicine, the American College of Emergency Medicine, the Air & Space Forces Association, and the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine.
Given his professional achievements, Dr. McConkey won a Daughters of the American Revolution Award as a young man, which inspired him to pursue a career in the military. Subsequently, he received a Meritorious Service Award through the U.S. Air Force and a Distinguished Alumni Award from Chadron State College. While his career has been filled with highlights, he takes the most pride in his combat tour in Iraq, where he saved numerous lives. He conducted medical evacuations throughout his service and successfully executed one air assault mission, demonstrating exceptional bravery and skill in adversity.
While Dr. McConkey's career has been marked by numerous achievements, he remains focused on the future.
