Dr. Turock is a distinguished professional with a multifaceted career spanning several decades. He began his professional career at AT&T Bell Laboratories where he conducted basic research creating mathematical and computer models of brain function. After leaving Bell, he joined Bellcore's Applied Research Division where he created new communications services and software expert systems. After Bellcore, he founded several entrepreneurial telecommunications companies. The first, Call Sciences, offered integrated voice, fax, and data services for large communications companies such as Bell South, British Telecom, Comcast, and MCI. The second, Intellicom, implemented a trading floor platform for call arbitrage. The third, Interexchange, created one of the largest debit card platforms in the world as well as an international Voice over IP (VoIP) telephone network spanning five continents. Dr. Turock holds the foundational VoIP patent describing the technology that carries telephone calls from the public-switched telephone network over the Internet. Six of the nine billion calls placed in the world each day are carried over this technology. He is currently Director of Artificial Intelligence R&D at Therap Services, a company that he co-founded that is creating biometric data acquisition and analysis technology to advance the care of intellectually and/or developmentally disabled individuals.
Dr. Turock is the Chairman and Founder of the Turock Family Foundation, Chairman of the Johns Hopkins Institute for Basic Biomedical Sciences advisory board, and a founding member and board Vice Chairman of the National Museum of Mathematics. Philanthropically, Dr. Turock is a founder of Northern Lights Aviation, which transports patients from rural areas to major medical centers, the Lyme Navigator Foundation, which advocates for advanced medical care for people suffering from tick borne disease, and the Lightning Rod Foundation which advocates for advancing electric vehicle transportation as a mitigant of deleterious effects of climate change. He also served on the boards of several educational institutions such as the Montclair Kimberley Academy and Keystone College.
Academically, David received his A.A from Keystone College, B.S. in Psychology from Syracuse University, his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Neuropsychology from Rutgers University, and his M.S.E. in Engineering and Computer Science from the University of Pennsylvania. He also holds post-graduate certificates in Strategic Technology Management from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School, Technology Commercialization from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Sloan School of Management, Machine Learning from Stanford University, and Nanotechnology from Harvard University. He is the author of numerous research articles and papers, and more than a dozen patents, a book on advanced transportation technology co-authored with former Bell Labs colleague Dr. Warren Gifford, and is a frequent guest lecturer at Harvard University's Extension School program.
