Prior to his tenure as mayor, he owned and operated 3J Transmission for 18 years; as an expert in automatic and manual transmissions, he built a reputation for excellence in the industry. His ability to interact effectively with people and his commitment to employee well-being resulted in his business being featured in the Chicago Tribune in 2021.
Mr. Garza's educational background includes a degree in automobile engineering from Tecnológico de Monterrey, obtained in 1990, and a degree in engineering from the same institution in 1989. These academic achievements have been foundational to his expertise in the transmissions industry and have played a crucial role in his ability to lead and innovate within his community.
In addition to his professional roles, Mr. Garza is actively involved in various civic organizations. He has served on the TIF Advisory Board for the city of Arcola for seven years and is a member of the Arcola Rotary Club. His volunteer work at the Arcola Food Pantry further exemplifies his dedication to community service. His contributions have been recognized with awards such as the Hispanic Leaders Award during National Hispanic Heritage Month in 2023 and the Great Immigrants Award from the Carnegie Corporation of New York in 2022.
Mr. Garza attributes his success to the unwavering support of his family, including his spouse, Hortensia, and their four children, whose encouragement has been a constant source of motivation throughout his career.
