Mr. Guter is the head athletic trainer and physical therapist for the Colorado Rapids Soccer Club, where he has excelled in supporting athletes since 2019. He initiated his career as a clinical athletic trainer at Morgantown Physical Therapy Associates in 1989 before transitioning to serve as a clinical physical therapist and athletic trainer at Vanderbilt Sports Medicine Center from 1993 to 1995. Mr. Guter was subsequently welcomed to D.C. United, a Major League Soccer organization, where he was named the head athletic trainer and physical therapist from 1996 to 2003.
Additional industry experience further defines Mr. Guter's profile. From 2003 to 2005, he thrived as a physical therapist at Commonwealth Orthopedics and Rehabilitation, after which he progressed to the rank of athletic trainer and physical therapist at Columbus Crew from 2005 through 2006. Mr. Guter was proud to then join Red Bull New York as the head athletic trainer and physical therapist from 2007 to 2011, further solidifying his reputation in Major League Soccer.
In 2011, Mr. Guter took on a seasonal role with the New York Jets as an athletic trainer and physical therapist before moving to Excel Therapy and Rehabilitation in 2012, where he served as a clinical physical therapist for one year. Additionally, he served as the head athletic trainer and physical therapist for the Women's National Team of the U.S. Soccer Federation from 2012 to 2018, and Mr. Guter humbly accepted a position as part of the national team athletic training staff from 1995 to 2018.
Mr. Guter boasts exceptional academic credentials, and his accomplishments including a graduate degree. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from the University of Central Arkansas, which he earned in 1993, and a Master of Arts in sports medicine, physical education and athletic training from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, which was completed in 1989. Throughout his career, he has also received numerous accolades, including being named Student Athletics Trainer of the Year in Arizona in 1987 and Physical Therapy Student of the Year at the University of Central Arkansas. Notably, he was a three-time winner of the Major League Soccer Trainer of the Year award and was inducted into his high school's hall of fame in 2019.
Mr. Guter maintains an active network through sustained membership in key professional organizations, including the National Athletic Association, the American Physical Therapy Association, Phi Kappa Phi and the Professional Soccer Athletic Trainers Society. Mr. Guter's broad connections made during graduate school have also remained important throughout his career, providing lifelong friendships and mentorships.
Outside of his professional life, Mr. Guter enjoys participating in triathlons and biking. He also holds a black belt in jiu-jitsu.
