Dr. Soyer is a Professor of Decision Sciences and of Statistics at The George Washington University. Additionally, He also serves as the director of The George Washington University's Institute for Integrating Statistics in Decision Sciences. He has expertise in Bayesian statistics, time-series analysis, stochastic modeling, and reliability analysis, Through his myriad positions, Dr. Soyer teaches master's and doctoral degree courses, collaborates with colleagues on various research projects, and serves as a doctoral adviser.
Previously, Dr. Soyer lent his expertise to George Washington University as chair of the Department of Decision Sciences and program director of the Management Decision Making Program. Over the years, he has been a visiting scholar or a professor with several other academic institutions, including Bocconi University, Duke University, Koc Univesity, Istanbul and Trinity College, Dublin.
An expert in his field, Dr. Soyer earned a Bachelor of Arts in economics from Bogazici University in 1978. Subsequently, he completed a Master of Science in operational research from Sussex University in 1979 and a Doctor of Science in operations research from George Washington University in 1985. During his career, he published over 150 articles, co-authored a book titled Dynamic Time Series Models using R-INLA and co-edited a volume titled Mathematical Reliability: An Expository Perspective.
Given his professional achievements, Dr. Soyer has been honored as a dean scholar through George Washington University's School of Business several times and was the Mitch Blaser Distinguished Scholar in Business Analytics during 2013-2018. He was elected a Fellow of the Turkish Statistical Association, a Fellow of the American Statistical Association and a Fellow of the International Society for Bayesian Analysis. While his career has been filled with highlights, he takes the most pride in significantly contributing to reliability modeling, particularly through applying Bayesian statistics in reliability analysis. Though hard work and dedication have brought him far in his career, he credits his success to collaborating with doctoral students and colleagues.
