Dr. Trejo's career in education spans over 25 years, during which she has held various roles, including teacher, learning team facilitator, assistant principal, principal, district program planner, and senior director of English for speakers of other languages. One of the highlights of her career was her role as a program planner for the Palm Beach County School District in Palm Beach County, Florida. In this position, Dr. Trejo took the initiative to shape a newly established role focused on Hispanic/Latino studies, fulfilling Florida's state mandate 1003.42 (q) requiring all K-12 students to learn about Hispanic contributions to the U.S. This endeavor included providing training, developing culturally relevant curriculum materials and organizing annual summer institutes to empower educators and administrators.
Dr. Trejo's academic journey includes earning a bachelor's degree in political science with a minor in mass communications from the University of Florida in 1999, followed by a Master of Education in 2003 and a Doctor of Education in 2023 from Nova Southeastern University. Dr. Trejo is also a graduate of the National Association of Latino Administrators and Superintendents Leadership Academy (Cohort X) in 2021 and the Women Superintendents' Policy Leadership Academy in 2022.
Dr. Trejo is actively involved in several industry-related organizations. She served as the Palm Beach County School Administrators' Association president in 2011 and co-facilitates the National ALAS Linking Latina Leaders Network. She is also a member and current National Association for Bilingual Education (NABE) conference presenter. Beyond her professional commitments, Dr. Trejo volunteers as a mentor at local schools.
Throughout her career, Dr. Trejo was recognized for her outstanding educational contributions by being named as the Southeastern Consortium for Minorities in Engineering Administrator of the Year from Florida Atlantic University in 2014, earning the Wings of Inspiration Award from FL-ALAS in 2019, winning the 22nd Annual Triunfo Education Award from Palm Beach Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in 2019, receiving a $10,000 scholarship from National ALAS in 2021 and being named Administrator That Made an Outstanding Difference by the National Association of Latino Administrators and Superintendents (ALAS) in 2021. She also received several other accolades, including induction into the Hall of Fame at Auburndale High School in Polk County, Florida, in 2016 and being named to South Florida's Hispanic Women of Distinction in 2022. Dr. Trejo attributes her success to the strong values her hardworking immigrant parents passed down, whose unwavering work ethic and support have always guided her. She also draws immense strength from her husband and children whose consistent support has proved invaluable throughout their journey together.
