Mr. Costigan is an accomplished higher education and community engagement professional and the assistant dean of student affairs in the school of law at the University of Akron in Akron, Ohio. Since 2022, he has been overseeing the daily operations of the school, managing orientations and graduations and supervising all student registrations, advising and discipline matters.
Before joining the university, Mr. Costigan worked as an intake coordinator for the Expedited Pardon Project in the school of law at the University of Akron from 2021 to 2022. Before transitioning into the legal field, he was a key accounts manager at Cognivue Inc. between 2018 and 2021. Mr. Costigan's earlier career included significant contributions as the assistant director for immersion experiences at John Carroll University from 2013 to 2018, where he enhanced the range of programming and led major mission-based initiatives, including developing a major spiritual leadership retreat program.
Mr. Costigan's career began with roles that laid a strong foundation for his future endeavors. He was a development associate at Homeboy Industries in Los Angeles from 2008 to 2009. He also served as a graduate assistant for leadership development at Boston College between 2010 and 2011 and was the manager of corporate sponsorships at the Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities in Washington, D.C., from 2011 to 2013.
Highly educated, Mr. Costigan holds a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish, economics and philosophy from John Carroll University in 2008, a master's degree in theology and ministry from Boston College in 2011 and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the school of law at the University of Akron in 2022. While pursuing his law degree, he was a judicial extern at the Summit County Probate Court in 2022. Mr. Costigan was also admitted to practice by the Ohio Bar Association.
Mr. Costigan is an active member of several industry-related organizations, including the American Bar Association, the Akron Bar Association, the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association, the Ohio State Bar Association and the National Association of Law Student Affairs Professionals. His commitment to civic engagement is evident through his roles as a chaplain at the Cleveland Clinic in Akron, Ohio, board member at Saint Vincent-Saint Mary High School, participant in the Jesuit Volunteer Corps, volunteer at Grace Health and volunteer recruiter for the Catholic Volunteer Network.
In recognition of his achievements, Mr. Costigan received the Outstanding Young Alumni Award from John Carroll University. He attributes his success to the invaluable support he received from his grandmother and critical figures throughout his journey.
