Dr. Russ is a computer and data scientist who joined the U.S. Department of Defense's civilian workforce in 1997, excelling through the ranks and achieving the top grade of GG-15 (O-6 equivalent). A career Information Technology professional, he was a Network Engineer for most of his career before transitioning to Data and Network Analytics a couple of years ago. Before joining the civilian workforce, he was a computer systems technician in the U.S. Air Force for 12 years, where he achieved the esteemed honor of "Outstanding Performer of the Year" for four consecutive years. Dr. Russ's expertise and impact have been instrumental in advancing the department's technological capabilities.
During his undergraduate studies, Dr. Russ adopted the phrase "Don't fight the facts" from his Business Law professor, which he often said when students sometimes veered off-course when explaining law cases. This phrase became his motto and was central to his approach to solving Information Technology problems. But it did not end there. In part, this mindset inspired Dr. Russ to look into a post-graduate doctoral curriculum based on establishing and presenting empirical research and evidence-based findings. In 2017, he excelled in post-graduate studies, maintaining Golden Key Honors status while earning a Master of Science in Computer Science and a Doctor of Information Technology (DIT) in Computer Science while also working full-time. During his Air Force tenure, he also earned a Master of Arts in Computer Resources and Information Management, a Bachelor of Science in Management with an emphasis on Information System Management, and an Associate of Science in Electronic Systems Technology.
Dr. Russ also believes that industry certifications are critical for establishing trusted credentials and improving one's chances of success in the fast-paced and ever-changing field of Information Technology. He demonstrated astute knowledge in cloud technology, earning and maintaining active Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP) and GIAC Public Cloud Security (GPCS) industry certifications. Dr. Russ also demonstrated mastery in cybersecurity, earning and currently maintaining active Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), GIAC Information Security Professional (GISP), and GIAC Security Essentials Certification (GSEC) industry certifications. His previous network engineering certifications included the Certified Cisco Network Professional (CCNP) and Certified Cisco Network Associate (CCNP). Dr. Russ is also out in front and engaged in the new and emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and deep learning (DL).
Dr. Russ enjoys studying patterns and behaviors, particularly of technology systems. He cherishes his family and their well-being.
