Mr. Hastings is a distinguished professional with over two decades of experience in nonprofit financial management, leadership, and program management. He currently serves as Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer, and Treasurer at The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine, Inc. (HJF), a position he has held since 2018. HJF is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine with approximately 2,800 employees globally. HJF serves military, medical, academic, and government partners by administering, managing, and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit the armed forces and civilians. Mr. Hastings leads the accounting, pricing, financial reporting, internal controls, treasury, procure-to-pay, and financial planning and analysis functions in this role.
Prior to joining HJF, Mr. Hastings was with the AARP Foundation as Vice President, Workforce Programs after serving as Director of Finance. He was previously Executive Manager of the Uniformed Services University of the Health Science's Center for Neuroscience and Regenerative Medicine as a Department of Defense civilian, and held other progressively responsible positions with nonprofit and for-profit organizations.
Mr. Hastings is a certified public accountant through the Virginia Board of Accountancy. Leading up to his professional experience, he received a Master of Business Administration in finance and marketing from Raymond A. Mason School of Business at the College of William & Mary in 2002. During that time, he gained membership with the Business School Honors Society, Beta Gamma Sigma. These affiliations reflect his ongoing commitment to professional excellence and leadership within his field. Along with his master's degree, Mr. Hastings holds a Bachelor of Arts in English language and literature from the University of Virginia in 1996.
Coupled with his professional focus, he has served as volunteer Treasurer for Beyond Borders Haiti from 2017 – 2023 and Treasurer of Experience NOW from 2023 – present. He was also a volunteer business development manager in Haiti for Fonkoze, a microfinance bank, from 1998 to 2000. Overall, Mr. Hastings' dedication to these roles underscores his commitment to positively impacting beyond his primary career.
Beyond his professional and civic engagement, Mr. Hastings has three children and enjoys supporting his children's endeavors and being outdoors. He attends Hill City Church in Alexandria, VA.
Mr. Hastings aims to support HJF's mission to advance military medicine across a wide spectrum of research areas, including cancer, chemical, biological and radiological defense, rehabilitative medicine, combat casualty care, force health protection, human performance, infectious diseases, precision medicine, TBI, PTSD, mental health and more.
