In addition to her work in private practice, Dr. Justice found success as a medical investigator with the National Institutes of Health and the Jonas Salk Institute regarding HIV and AIDS.
ANAHEIM, CA, October 09, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Barbara J. Justice, MD, ABPN, ABFP, forensic psychiatrist and qualified medical examiner, was selected by Marquis Who's Who for a prominent feature in the Manhattan regional edition of Vogue magazine.
With more than four decades of experience in health care, Dr. Barbara J. Justice is a talented forensic psychiatrist providing services in criminal and civic matters in issues of mental health. Driven by a sense of compassion for those under her care and dedication to fair and objective evaluation, she embarked upon her professional journey as a surgeon during the 1980s, when few women were practicing in the field.
Working for several medical institutions as an attending physician and instructor, Dr. Justice served the population of Upper Manhattan during the emergence of the AIDS virus. Throughout this time, she hosted a radio program on WLIB-AM that informed people about the best health practices, particularly those in the Black, Brown, underserved and LGBTQ+ communities. In addition to her work in private practice, Dr. Justice found success as a medical investigator with the National Institutes of Health and the Jonas Salk Institute regarding HIV and AIDS.
After more than 20 years, Dr. Justice pivoted her professional interests toward her other love: psychiatry. She has continued to offer impeccable and compassionate service to communities of color, the less fortunate and marginalized, and those targeted by the AIDS crisis.
Dr. Justice completed general psychiatry training at Columbia University and Harlem Hospital and fellowships at the New York University Psychoanalytic Institute in psychodynamic psychotherapy and the University of California Los Angeles in forensic psychiatry. She provided treatment at Riker's Island Correctional Facility, and, after her move to California, she became the director of forensic psychiatry training at Metropolitan State Hospital in Norwalk, California, for several years.
Dr. Justice has a private practice specializing in civil and criminal forensic mental health evaluations, reports and testimony. She is also an attending psychiatrist providing treatment and evaluation of incarcerated inmates under the care of the Department of State Hospitals for California. In this role, she stabilizes the mentally ill and educates them on their constitutional rights. She is also a qualified medical examiner for injured workers in California. Dr. Justice is a consultant at Equity Evaluations and the Forensic MED Group. She is the former CEO of the Glaser Forensic Group.
Outside of her primary efforts, Dr. Justice has contributed her vast scholarly knowledge as a speaker, lecturer and member of various relevant organizations. She is an avid social advocate, and her commitment to contributing to the welfare of all humanity is her motivation.
Dr. Justice studied at the City University of New York, earning a Bachelor of Arts in 1971. She subsequently attended Howard University, receiving a Doctor of Medicine in 1977. Later, she undertook extensive coursework, internships and residencies in surgery and psychiatry at several prominent medical institutions over her career.
Well-regarded for her contributions to the field, Dr. Justice was honored in 1996 when Mayor David Dinkins of New York proclaimed a citywide Barbara Justice Day. Additionally, she was an Elite Physicians nominee in 2014 and has been featured several times in the pages of the Wall Street Journal.
