Looking to what's next, Dr. Allen is finishing research into the stories of African American servicemen during World War II.
PERRIS, CA, October 09, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- John E. Allen, DDS, has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Since retiring from his career of over 30 years as a dentist in 2008, Dr. Allen has established himself as an esteemed author, researcher and jazz musician. Performing as a professional musician since 1995, he launched his own company, Digital Futures Music Publishing, in 2005. In addition to owning the organization and overseeing operations, Dr. Allen contributes as a historian and jazz musician. He prides himself on furthering the legacy of jazz by uncovering forgotten stories from cultural history.
Dr. Allen's passion for research and writing was ignited at the age of 45, when he learned more about his father, a professional musician with the Teddy Hill Orchestra (Josephine Baker's stage band) who had passed away when Dr. Allen was only 12 years old, and further ancestors dating back to the pre-Civil War era. He had also inherited a quilt from his mother with a history dating back to 1887 and potential connections to the Underground Railroad. Dr. Allen explored this unique relic in his book, "The Content of Their Character: The Story Behind This Antique Quilt and the History of the African American Family That Made It," published in 2009. He also published his first novel in 2013, "Twin Stars and Pure Magic," a science fiction story examining the dangers of artificial intelligence and genetic engineering.
Before venturing onto his vocational path, Dr. Allen sought a strong academic foundation that would support his varied professional interests. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts in biological sciences from the University of California Santa Barbara in 1974. Dr. Allen was encouraged to pursue dentistry when he was selected for an early affirmative action program at the University of California San Francisco, allowing him to provide dental care to underserved communities. Subsequently, he earned a Doctor of Dental Surgery from that institution in 1979. Throughout the '80s, Dr. Allen completed coursework in jazz music theory and harmony at Stanford University and in jazz performance at Skyline College. He credits his success to the influence of his parents, his personability and his communication skills.
Long committed to civic advocacy, Dr. Allen has given his time and energy to numerous causes that are important to him. He has volunteered as a performer and jazz pianist for community bands and local college events. Dr. Allen has also spearheaded fundraising efforts to provide school supplies to students, food deliveries, and turkey giveaways during Thanksgiving and Christmas in collaboration with the Western Farm Workers Association.
Beyond his professional life, Dr. Allen is a dedicated father and grandfather. When he's not researching, writing or making music, he finds joy in going to the gym and woodworking. Looking to what's next, Dr. Allen is finishing research into the stories of African American servicemen during World War II. He also intends to continue raising awareness of the quilt detailed in his book and to make this artifact available for public display. Dr. Allen's most ambitious goal is to establish a new business to sell his current and future books, which would also offer a space for other writers taking on similar topics. He also hopes to engage in more live music performances in the years ahead.
