In 1981, in the setting of his garage, Mr. Neilson established an EPA-certified drinking water laboratory to address microbiological contamination.
What began as a small-scale effort has since flourished into the Neilson Research Corporation, a comprehensive and respected institution in water testing and environmental safety. Mr. Neilson's journey from a high school biology teacher to the founder of a leading research organization reflects his commitment to public health and scientific discovery.
Mr. Neilson, an esteemed professional in the environmental sciences, has dedicated over 40 years to his role as the president and chief executive officer of the Neilson Research Corporation. The corporation is the largest environmental testing laboratory in Oregon, specializing in water and wastewater analytical chemistry and microbiology. Mr. Neilson oversees the laboratory's total operations while his daughter holds the title of president. Recently, he stepped back from daily operations to focus more on a supervisory role. However, he remains steadfast about exploring new capabilities, such as ultra-low level mercury analysis, to further enhance the company's services.
In addition to his work at Neilson Research Corporation, Mr. Neilson is the president and chief executive officer of Oregon Studio Group LLC, a photography studio based in Southern Oregon. He has been actively involved in this venture since 2014, specializing in headshots, individual portraits, family photos, commercial photography, and product photography. Mr. Neilson's passion for photography complements his scientific expertise, showcasing his diverse skill set.
A Vietnam War veteran, Mr. Neilson's military service further exemplifies his dedication and discipline.
After his tour of active duty in the Vietnam war, he notably continued to serve his country with the U.S. Anny Reserves' 313th Mobile Army Surgical Hospital, an experience that undoubtedly shaped his leadership skills and commitment to public service.
