Dr. Tulp, a distinguished expert in nutritional medicine, nutritional biochemistry and medical biochemistry, has dedicated over four decades to advancing the medical field. Currently serving as a professor, founder and president at the University of Science, Arts and Technology, Montserrat he has been instrumental in teaching a variety of courses in the medical basic sciences curriculum for MD, MBBS and PhD students. Since assuming his role in 2003, his responsibilities have included providing lecture fill-ins for absent instructors, teaching entire courses when necessary, advising and mentoring both graduate and medical students and writing the majority of dean's letters for graduates. In addition, Dr Tulp has maintained an active research program in the nutritional and biomedical sciences. Dr. Tulp studied extensively at the University of Vermont, earning a Doctor of Philosophy in medical pharmacology in 1974, a Master of Science in physiology and biophysics in 1970 and completing a NIH postdoctoral fellowship in the College of Medicine. Additionally, he holds a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science from this institution, along with an associate degree in medical technology from Carnegie College and is a 1960 graduate of the Vermont Military Academy, majoring in military studies.

Prior to his current role, Dr. Tulp was a professor at Drexel University from 1983 to 2004. During his tenure there, he was highly regarded for his ability to simplify complex nutritional biochemistry concepts from a medical perspective, making them accessible and practical for his students. This approach earned him consistent high teaching evaluations and accolades from former students. Before joining Drexel University, he served as an associate professor at Colby College from 1981 to 1983 and as a Research Associate Professor at the University of Vermont College of Medicine in Burlington from 1974-1981 where he specialized in Nutrition, Endocrinology, and Metabolism. Dr. Tulp conducted original research in Nutrient-Endocrine interactions as an NIH National Research Service Awardee. He elucidated the mechanism of nutrient induced modulation of thyroid function and its contributions to adaptive thermogenesis and energy balance and has published and lectured extensively on the nutritional and environmental regulation of thermogenesis, metabolism, and development of brown adipose tissue, and more recently on the role of nutrition in the progression of senescence.

Dr. Tulp's career also includes significant military tenure, consisting of more than 43 years of service, retiring in the grade of Colonel, AMEDD, AUS, serving in the US and South America. He is a graduate of the Vermont Military Academy, The US Army Medical Field Service School, the USA Academy of Health Sciences, the USA Command and Staff College, and the USA National Defense University, specializing in Medical Executive Management, and others. He led the Vermont medical unit for over a decade during the Vietnam era, where his unit was recognized as the best-trained field medical unit in the United States military. The Pentagon granted permission to exceed their authorized strength due to their outstanding performance, allowing Dr. Tulp to enlist and appoint numerous talented doctors and nurses who contributed to impactful work including the conduct of over 250 medical civic action community service missions in the USA and South America in addition to Command and Staff Positions at all levels of command from Medical Company, Combat Support Hospital, Special Staff officer, and consultant to the Surgeon's Office at the Pentagon, Washington DC; He contributed to the development and advancement of the US Army weight control programs and development of military medical civic action programs. Among his citations and awards are a Presidential Citation, the USA Legion of Merit (Congressional Award), Meritorious Service Medals, the Medal of Military Medical Merit, the Garde Nationale Trophy [the 8th such award in history], the Citizenship Medal, US Army Commendation Medal with 7 Oak Leaf Clusters, the US Army Achievement medal with oak leaf clusters, the National Defense Service Medal w/oak leaf cluster, the Reserve Components Achievement Medal w/3 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Expert Field Medical Badge, and the First Award of the Major General H G Robinson Award for Academic Scholarship, Leadership, Ethics, and Humanitarian Service to a Global Community. He was awarded a Lifetime Presidential Volunteer Service Award by the White House in recognition of his extensive volunteer community service in the USA and abroad. Colonel Tulp is a lifetime member of the Military Order of World Wars, a charitable organization that support the youth of our Nation in addition to being appointed as a Kentucky Colonel and a Kentucky Admiral by the Governor of Kentucky. In 2008 Dr Tulp was invested and appointed as a Knight of Grace, Ancient Sovereign Order of Hospitallers of St John of Jerusalem, and as a Knight in the Imperial Order of Culture and Peace of the United Kingdom.

In addition to his academic and military achievements, Dr. Tulp has been honored with several prestigious awards. He is also a fellow of the American College of Nutrition and has received the National Research Service Award Fellowship from the National Institutes of Health, the Presidential Volunteer Service Lifetime Award from the White House, the Lifetime Academic Award from the American Association for Higher Education and Accreditation. and the Citizenship Award for public service from the Sons of the American Revolution, appointment as a Fellow of the Royal College of Complementary and Alternative Medicine [FRCAM, Dublin], a member of the AAPS [American Association of Physicians and Surgeons] and others.

Certified as a nutrition specialist for more than 40 years, Dr. Tulp attributes his success to his passion for teaching and his ability to effectively communicate complex ideas. His dedication to sharing knowledge through written publications has been evident throughout his career, as he has authored approximately 800 articles in research science and professional journals and contributed more than 20 book chapters.

Dr. Tulp is actively involved in several industry-related professional organizations, including the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons, the American College of Nutrition, the American Society for Nutrition and the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics. He also serves on editorial review boards for leading medical journals and is a member of the American Legion.

Outside his professional life, Dr. Tulp enjoys traveling with his wife, spending time with his family and skiing. Looking ahead to future career endeavors, he envisions himself remaining on his current path, continuing to passionately pursue teaching, research, and publishing.
