Exhibiting a deep appreciation for and talent in illustration since childhood, Joseph Yuss Simon has excelled as the principal, story artist and illustrator for Thinkwell Studios since 1993. Pursuing sculpture at several prestigious art institutions in New York shortly after graduating from college, he went on to explore the fields of film, television and animation upon the introduction of special effects as popularized by innovative filmmakers Steven Spielberg and George Lucas. Mr. Simon relocated to Los Angeles to work in collaboration with talented artists in the industry, where he networked with esteemed professionals and, later on, worked on several projects with makeup and special effects artist Rick Baker.
Notably, Mr. Simon's portfolio is comprised of fine artwork spanning film, television commercials and books, and he is well-regarded in his industry for creating storyboards, conceptual designs, animations, and illustrations for pre-production with feature films and advertising. He was a special effects makeup artist for several award-winning films, including "The Nutty Professor" in 1996, "Men in Black" in 1997, "Mighty Joe Young" in 1998, and "Stuart Little" in 1999, among a myriad of others. He also worked as a storyboard artist on "Home of the Brave" in 2006, "Loveless in Los Angeles" in 2007, and "Rest Stop: Don't Look Back" in 2008.
Emphasizing that art is an ineffable language, Mr. Simon is driven by his passion for art and encourages others to communicate through artistic expression. Having studied at the Fashion Institute of Technology, Mr. Simon places emphasis on learning the foundations of art. Adjacent to his professional interests, he enjoys volunteering for various art charities, such as Foundations in Art, where he has served as an instructor for youth ages 10 and up in drawing, painting, sculpture and art education.

In 1984, Mr. Simon graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology with an associate degree in illustration. Valuing the importance of lifelong education, he studied painting and sculpture at the Los Angeles Academy of Figurative Arts between 2018 and 2019. Mr. Simon is also certified as a nationally registered emergency medical technician and a basic life support instructor.
In light of his outstanding feats in artistry, Mr. Simon was acknowledged by Academy Award-winning makeup artist Rick Baker as a member of the team who collaborated on the films "The Nutty Professor" and "Men in Black," which won the Academy Award for Best Makeup Effects in 1997 and 1998, respectively, from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
