Sara Ann Young, RN, BSN, MSN, shared her professional achievements and industry expertise in Vogue magazine



Ms. Young earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from West Virginia University in 1970. She subsequently earned a Master of Science in Nursing from the Catholic University of America in 1977.

    PARKERSBURG, WV, October 10, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Sara Ann Young, RN, BSN, MSN, OB-GYN clinical nurse specialist with Hartford Hospital, was selected by Marquis Who's Who for a prominent feature in the West Virginia regional edition of Vogue magazine.

Sara Ann Young excelled in the field of nursing for 41 years prior to her retirement in 2011. At the inception of her career, she was a staff nurse at Camden Clark Memorial Hospital in Parkersburg, West Virginia, for two years before becoming the head nurse of labor and delivery. For the following four years, she worked in Washington, D.C., as a staff nurse at The George Washington University Medical Center until her departure from the institution in 1978. For the final 33 years of her career, she served as an OB-GYN clinical nurse specialist at Hartford Hospital in Connecticut.

Upon acquiring certification as an international board-certified lactation consultant in 1994, Ms. Young was responsible for providing and managing the lactation services of Hartford Hospital. During her last seven years with the institution, she served as co-chair of the women's health nursing divisional research utilization committee. From 2011 to 2018, she also maintained registered nurse licensure in West Virginia, where she cared for her mother, who was also a nurse. Adjacent to her primary interests, Ms. Young was a speaker in the field and a clinical associate at the University of Connecticut School of Nursing. For 14 years, she served on the planning committee of the March of Dimes Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) Nursing Symposium.

In a career abound with highlights and cherished moments, Ms. Young is especially proud of coordinating the efforts of the department of women's health at Hartford Hospital in 2000, during which time she played an instrumental role in helping the hospital become recognized as the first baby-friendly hospital in Connecticut. Additionally, she was honored to have her mother present at a talk she conducted on Hartford Hospital's journey to become baby-friendly.

To remain abreast of advancements in the field of nursing, Ms. Young maintains professional alignment with the American Nurses Association and the Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses. In light of her exceptional undertakings, she was presented with the Wyeth Award in 1989 and the Professional Award from La Leche League of Connecticut in 2001.

Prior to embarking on her career journey, Ms. Young earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from West Virginia University in 1970. She subsequently earned a Master of Science in Nursing from the Catholic University of America in 1977. She also received certifications as a bereavement counselor and an international board-certified lactation consultant.
