Marquis Who's Who Honors Debra M. Halliday, PsyD, for Expertise in Psychotherapy

Dr. Halliday is an experienced and respected clinical psychologist who has dedicated her career to enhancing mental health and wellbeing. As the chief executive officer and the chief psychologist at The Halliday Center for Psychotherapy and Wellness Inc. since 2014, she oversees two offices in Encinitas and Carmel Valley. She also conducts psychotherapy sessions virtually and in person, several days a week. Dr. Halliday's responsibilities extend to managing the daily operations of her practice, developing policies and procedures and ensuring compliance with regulations such as HIPAA. In addition to commitments at The Halliday Center, she has succeeded as a clinical psychologist at Debra Burnett-Halliday, PsyD, since 2010.

Transitioning into psychology after a successful career as a midwife, Dr. Halliday received her training at the Maternity Center in El Paso, Texas, and later co-founded Birth Ways in San Diego, where she worked alongside fellow midwives Sunny Peterson and Eloise de Leon. After returning to college to earn her doctorate, she became a Psychological Assistant at Psychiatric Centers at San Diego in 2008 before earning the role of Psychologist from 2009 to 2010.

During an earlier stage of her career, Dr. Halliday held research and clinical research positions at The Institute for Personality and Social Research at the University of California Berkeley, Stanford University, and Stanford University Medical Center.

Dr. Halliday has become well-versed in various therapeutic modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Jungian therapy, couples psychotherapy, and, among others, Dialectical Behavior Therapy. She is also proficient in addressing issues such as bipolar disorder, anxiety, borderline personality disorder, depression, LGBTQ issues and more.

Highly educated, Dr. Halliday received a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from the University of California Berkeley in 2003 and a Doctor of Psychology in clinical psychology from the PGSP-Stanford PsyD Consortium in 2008. She also has held several professional credentials, such as a certified group psychotherapist from the American Group Psychotherapy Association and a certified domestic violence counselor from the State of California. Additionally, Dr. Halliday completed training programs with the American Red Cross and the National Center for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Dr. Halliday's professional affiliations are extensive. She currently serves as the president of the San Diego Psychological Association and has been active on several of the organization's committees, including chair of the Events committee and co-chair of the Ethics and Standards committee. She is also a member of the American Psychological Association, Division I of the California Psychological Association, Division 12 of the Society of Clinical Psychology (Division 12), among others. Civically invested, Dr. Halliday has done pro bono work through her practice to support underserved populations.

Recognizing her contributions, Dr. Halliday has received multiple Certificates of Appreciation from the San Diego Psychological Association, one from Marin Abused Women's Services, and a Distinguished Service Award from the University of California, Berkeley. She credits her good fortune to the unwavering support of her family, friends and colleagues. As she prepares for future success, Dr. Halliday aims to make psychology more accessible by supporting clinicians and community members through her practice organization or larger organizations that provide psychological services.
