Mr. McInnis is a distinguished California attorney with a career spanning several decades. Early in his career he was a Research Attorney for the California Superior Courts. Later he became a Deputy District Attorney for two different counties in Northern California and a Deputy Public Defender in San Diego County. Mr. McInnis has also served as a Superior Court Judge Pro Tem; he has been an arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association and a referee/arbitrator for the California Superior Courts. Outside of his legal work, Mr. McInnis is an accomplished author with several notable publications. His true-crime book "She's So Cold: The Stephanie Crowe Murder Case — A Defense Attorney's Inside Story" provides an in-depth look at the controversial case involving the murder of 12-year-old Stephanie Crowe. This work highlights instances of police misconduct, including the use of psychological interrogation techniques which led to the wrongful prosecution of three 14-year-old boys. Other literary works of Mr. McInnis include the A.J. Hawke, Attorney at Law, fictional crime series. These legal thriller books include "The Sphynx Murder Case," "Return of the Sphynx," "Blood of the Father" and "Cops Gone Bad." The fifth book in this series will be released this coming fall.
Mr. McInnis graduated from San Jose State University in 1967 with two Bachelor of Arts degrees. In 1972, he received a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Santa Clara University Law School. His post-law education includes an International Law diploma regarding the economic and political unification of Europe from the Europa Institute, the University of Amsterdam, and NUFFIC in 1973. His academic background laid a strong foundation for his legal expertise.
Adding to his credentials, Mr. McInnis is a member of the Mexican Academy of International Law, reflecting his commitment to a broader, more inclusive legal community. In addition to his professional achievements, he has made significant legal contributions to academia with law publications in the Dartmouth Law Journal, The Santa Clara University Law Review and the Loyola of Los Angeles University Law Review. Mr. McInnis has established the Donald E. McInnis University of Santa Clara Law School Fellowship for law student scholarships, and the Donald E.
