Dr. Chavez Viamontes began his career as a general practitioner in Santa Cruz del Sur, Camaguey, Cuba, from 1995 to 2000. In 2005, his expertise led him to an international role as a visiting professor at the University of the Gambia from 2005 to 2008, followed by an associate professorship at the State University of Zanzibar from 2013 to 2014.
In the United States, Dr. Chavez Viamontes held various academic and administrative positions. He was an adjunct faculty member at Mattia College and served as a nursing faculty at the Universal Career School. Concurrently, he worked with Best Doctors Insurance as a medical supervisor and provider relations manager. His role expanded into research as a part-time sub-investigator at South Florida Research Phase I-IV INC., starting in 2020.
Dr. Chavez Viamontes' tenure at St. Thomas University was particularly impactful. As an NCLEX review and outcomes specialist from 2020 to 2024, he played a crucial role in improving the university's nursing program pass rates, lifting it out of probation by the Florida Board of Nursing. Additionally, he has been an online instructor for their master's program since 2023. His efforts culminated in the acceptance of his paper, "Enhancing NCLEX Pass Rates through a Multi-Faceted Educational Intervention," for presentation at the Floridian Nurses Association Nursing Research and Evidence-Based Practice Conference in 2024.
Initially studying at the University of Medical Sciences of Camaguey, from which he earned an MD in 1995, Dr. Chavez Viamontes continued his studies decades later at Miami Regional University, where he graduated with a Master of Science in Nursing and an advanced practice certification in 2018. Following this accomplishment, he obtained an EdD in educational leadership from the University Central of Ashdod in Chicago in 2022.
To remain aware of developments in the field, Dr. Chavez Viamontes is actively involved in professional organizations like the Florida Nurses Association, the American Nurses Association, and the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. His scholarly contributions include over 10 published papers and peer-reviewed journals, along with a chapter in a book on epidemiology.
