    SPOKANE, WA, October 15, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dave A. Gunderson has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Mr. Gunderson, a retired educator and business owner, has dedicated his life to teaching, coaching, and mentoring. Over the course of several decades, he has made significant contributions to both education and sports, profoundly impacting the lives of countless students and athletes. When reuniting with former students, Mr. Gunderson is heartened by their recognition and gratitude, a testament to his unwavering commitment to excellence and personal growth.

Mr. Gunderson's professional journey began at the University of Idaho, where he taught physical education while coaching tennis. His coaching prowess was highlighted when he led the men's tennis team to its first Big Sky Championship. Beyond his university role, Mr. Gunderson was an active member of The River City Jaycees in Spokane from 1974 to 1977, further contributing to his community and the field of education. In Idaho, he was the Big Sky Conference Coach of the Year and was also inducted into their Hall of Fame in 2014. He was awarded the Project of the Year with the Jaycees and Jaycee of the Month awards. He was one of the founders of the senior softball league in Spokane. He also coached American Legion Baseball and Little League Baseball.

In addition to his tenure at the University of Idaho, Mr. Gunderson ventured into entrepreneurship. He became the co-owner of a fly shop and later owned lodges in the state of Montana. These ventures allowed him to combine his passion for the outdoors with his business acumen.

Mr. Gunderson's academic achievements laid a strong foundation for his successful career. He earned an associate degree from Grays Harbor College in 1962, followed by a bachelor's degree from Whitworth College in 1965 and a master's degree from the University of Idaho in 1968. As a player, he won a Gold Medal at the Huntsman World Senior Games in St. George, Utah. He has played on over 50 championship softball teams, including two world championship teams. He was also a four-time Hall of Fame Award winner in the Softball Hall of Fame. He was on the 1960-1969 Hall of Fame Team of the Decade and the 1970-1979 Hall of Fame Team of the Decade. He won a number of Most Valuable Player and batting titles throughout his career. He also won three Senior Softball Washington State Championships and the Hank Coplen Hall of Fame Award in recognition of outstanding service and support behind the scenes in softball.

Throughout his esteemed career, Mr. Gunderson had the privilege of mentoring numerous student teachers. Following his retirement, he dedicated himself to serving Gonzaga University and its community. His responsibilities included visiting schools and providing guidance and evaluation to student teachers. Mr. Gunderson took great pride in nurturing aspiring educators and coaches from various esteemed universities, including Whitworth College (where he was the head wrestling coach), Eastern Washington University, Gonzaga University, and Washington State University.

Born in Aberdeen and a graduate of Hoquiam High School, Mr. Gunderson enjoys reading and remains actively involved with senior softball.
