Likewise dedicated to the next generation of scholars, Dr. Stone has taught students as a Professor of Research and Measurement at the University of Toledo since 2002.
Past roles to Dr. Stone's credit include his work with the Chicago Child Care Society as a research associate from 1988 until 1992. He subsequently joined the American Society of Clinical Pathology and later served as the director of research at the National Certification Corporation between 1994 and 1996.
Though initially interested in psychology, Dr. Stone soon discovered a passion for research. Furthermore, having always held a sincere interest in fairness, equity and diversity, he recognized pervasive faults in the realm of scientific testing and measurements, and aimed to address these issues through his work. During his professional journey, Dr. Stone has been honored and gratified to spearhead the development of new performance standards alongside his former mentor Dr. Benjamin D. Wright.
After earning a Bachelor of Arts in social sciences at Shimer College in 1986, Dr. Stone continued his education at Loyola University of Chicago, where he received a Master of Arts in counseling psychology in 1989. He concluded his academic efforts at The University of Chicago, from which he attained a Ph.D. in measurement, evaluation and statistical analysis in 1996.
To remain active in the field, Dr. Stone has maintained professional affiliations with organizations including the American Educational Research Association. Likewise dedicated to civic advocacy, he is the founder of the Alice Elizabeth Stone Foundation – named in honor of his grandmother, a champion of environmental sustainability and gender equality, the organization offers mini-grants and scholarships to support sustainability within education, the environment and animal welfare.
As a testament to his achievements in the field, Dr. Stone has been the recipient of several accolades, including the Toledo Researcher Award, the Distinguished Visitors Award by the State of Mexico, the key to the city of Veracruz, and the 2023 L.L.Thurstone Psychometrics Award.
