GARDEN GROVE, CA, October 17, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Prof. Jeff Hendrix has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Jeff Hendrix is a distinguished figure in the world of dance, with a career spanning more than 40 years. He is the founder and director of the Jazz Dance Conference West, an annual event held on Memorial Day weekend that provides dancers with opportunities for training and networking with professionals in the field. In this capacity, he manages two websites, Jazz Dance Alliance and Jazz Dance Conference West, which serve as platforms for fostering a sense of community among dancers.
In addition to his organizational role, Mr. Hendrix has been a professor of dance at California State University, Dominguez Hills, since 2010. He has also previously served as a professor of dance at California State University, Long Beach; California State University, Los Angeles and the University of California, Irvine. He has also taught and choreographed at 11 community colleges, demonstrating his commitment to education and the arts.
Mr. Hendrix's international teaching experience includes prestigious institutions, such as Luigi's Dance Center (New York City), New Jersey Ballet, Ballet Russe de Montreal, Colombo in Zurich, Switzerland, and Schutz Ballet in Vienna. He has also taught at the Okamoto Ballet in Japan, the Maui Academy of Performing Arts, and the Svetlova Dance Center in Vermont. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he adapted to the changing landscape by delivering online dance instruction for students in Mumbai and Delhi, India.
Mr. Hendrix's academic background includes a Master of Fine Arts in Dance from the University of California, Irvine, earned in 1988, and a bachelor's degree in Radio, Television and Film from the University of Texas at Austin, completed in 1977. He attributes much of his success to his perseverance, passion, commitment, adaptability, skill development, and diverse training. He also gives credit to building connections, having a strong work ethic, maintaining a positive demeanor, and being reliable.
In addition to his teaching roles, Mr. Hendrix is an active member of industry-related organizations, such as the Screen Actors Guild and Dancers Resource Center. He considers the Jazz Dance Conference West to be his most significant achievement due to its role in expanding and fostering a sense of community within the dance world. The most recent endeavor through his Jazz Dance Alliance is promoting top jazz dance teachers in monthly sessions titled "Jazz Dance: Master Series."
Mr. Hendrix's journey into dance began at the age of 17 when his mother enrolled him in a summer workshop at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. There he learned jazz and modern dance from Tony Beck. Soon after that, he became a member of the Austin Ballet Theatre, which was under the direction of Stanley Hall. When he moved to New York, he met and trained with his mentor, the world-renowned and highly respected dancer/teacher Luigi. This early exposure ignited his passion for dance and set him on a path to becoming a prominent figure in the field. Additional mentors include Rhett Dennis, Dennon Rawles, and Hama.
Looking ahead, Mr. Hendrix aims to establish himself as a jazz dance historian and expand the Jazz Dance Conference West into an internationally recognized event with backing from prominent organizations. He also envisions developing the Jazz Dance Alliance into a leading platform dedicated to the preservation and education of jazz dance and creating comprehensive jazz dance history courses for education. Alongside these goals, he hopes to continue dancing, choreographing, and teaching locally and internationally.
