Before joining the sports and entertainment giant which owns and operates D.C.'s NBA, NHL, WNBA professional sports teams as well as several other teams, venues and its own media network, Mr. Clem honed his financial expertise as a licensed loan officer assistant for American Pacific Mortgage and as a client service associate for Samuel Scott Financial Group, helping buyers qualify for residential home loans.
An expert in his field, Mr. Clem holds a bachelor's degree in international business with a minor in mathematics from the University of San Diego in 2013. Subsequently, he received a Master of Professional Studies in sports industry management, business management, and operations from Georgetown University's School of Continuing Studies in 2018. Outside of his professional and educational endeavors, Mr. Clem serves as a career mentor for the University of San Diego's Knauss School of Business (KSB) mentorship program, where he is paired with a rising senior in the business school to offer career advice, help refine their resume, and practice for upcoming interviews. Mr. Clem is also a planning committee member and speaker at Sports Biz Camps in Washington, DC, which seeks to create career opportunities for individuals who are passionate about sports and currently underrepresented in the sports business. Lastly, Mr. Clem volunteers with Habitat for Humanity, a cause he is deeply passionate about, and is a member of the Arena Men's Group.
Given his professional achievements, Mr. Clem has been honored many times, earning a trustee scholarship through the University of San Diego and becoming the Beta Theta Pi of the Year Award finalist through Beta Theta Pi's Zeta Omega Chapter. Likewise, he won the Theta Award for Academic Excellence through Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. While his career has been filled with highlights, Mr. Clem takes the most pride in navigating the financial challenges posed by COVID-19 on the sports industry and his organization due to canceled games and restricted fan attendance. Mr. Clem organized and facilitated the fulfillment of tens of millions in credits that had resulted from sponsor prepayments for arena advertising assets that were undelivered during the pandemic-shortened seasons. Over the last four years, Mr. Clem and his team successfully fulfilled 99% of that liability through the use of various make-good assets and contract extensions.
Though hard work and dedication have brought him far in his career, Mr. Clem credits his success to his steadfast work ethic, maximizing opportunities, and establishing genuine connections with individuals. Within the coming years, he hopes to advance to the role of vice president of Monumental Sports & Entertainment and continue working in his beloved sports industry.
