Mr. Ernst's academic background includes a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing in 2012 and a Master of Business Administration from Monmouth University in 2014. He holds multiple certifications and authorizations for flight operations granted from the Federal Aviation Administration including Part 107, 333 exemptions, and authority to operate under multiple Part 91 Certificates of Authorizations.
Civically active, Mr. Ernst is a former member of the Cape May County Chamber of Commerce. He served as a firefighter with the Green Creek Volunteer Fire Company from 2004 to 2014 and was involved with the Boy Scouts of America, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout in 2008. Additionally, Mr. Ernst participated as a student ambassador for People to People in Australia in 2007.
During college, Mr. Ernst completed several internships, further developing his expertise. He was a marketing intern at Deer Valley Resort, where he gained valuable insights into market dynamics. This experience was followed by an administrative internship at Barnabas Health, where he honed his skills in health care administration.
His earliest roles were as a systems and financial analyst within the healthcare sector, with a focus on understanding how corporate business systems functioned (RWJBarnabas Health – New Jersey, 2012 – 2014). His entrepreneurial spirit and passion for aviation led him to found Sky Scape Industries, a drone services company providing powerline inspection services for electric utility companies. In 2019, Mr. Ernst sold Sky Scape Industries to American Aerospace Technologies, Inc. where he became a managing partner and Vice President of Flight Operations. Just prior to founding The Tactien Group LLC, Mr. Ernst also served as the Director of Business Development and Strategy at MissionGO Inc. in Baltimore.
Throughout his career, Mr. Ernst has been dedicated to advancing aviation technology. Mr. Ernst has been responsible for technology integration and flight operations of unmanned aircraft weighing anywhere from three to three hundred pounds. Mr. Ernst has also been responsible helicopter powerline operations and airplane inspection operations of linear infrastructure rights-of-way. Depending on mission requirements, Mr. Ernst's UAS flight operations would operate at medium-altitude for as long as 8-hours; some of the longest single flight operations in the National Airspace at the time. A unique achievement of Mr. Ernst's career is that often, the flight operations he has overseen were being conducted simultaneously (unmanned and manned aircraft together).
His contributions have also provided invaluable data on critical infrastructure for multinational organizations. Apart from his primary obligations, Mr. Ernst has been a guest speaker and supporter at many national and international aviation conferences, showcasing expertise and sharing knowledge. He has also advocated for the development of technology in remote sensing.
As an active member and supporter of industry-related organizations such as the Cape May County UAS Innovation Forum, the Association for Uncrewed Vehicle Systems International, the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, and the Drones Service Provider Alliance, Mr. Ernst continues to influence and shape the future of aviation technology.
