Dr. Eldib is a pediatric ophthalmologist and a clinical assistant professor of pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, UPMC Vision Institute. As part of his responsibilities, he provides comprehensive care for children from birth, including pre-term babies up to the age of 18 and even up to 26 within his institution. Dr. Eldib's career journey began as a senior registrar at the Research Institute of Ophthalmology Egypt from 2014 to 2015. He then served as an assistant researcher between 2014 and 2018. In 2020, he was appointed an assistant professor at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. Additionally, Dr. Eldib is the principal investigator for the Pediatric Eye Disease Investigator Group, coordinating studies within his division.
Throughout his career, Dr. Eldib has achieved significant recognition for his expertise in pediatric ophthalmology and glaucoma. He has published two book chapters on glaucoma, one focusing on the application of an intraoperative device known as Intraoperative OCT in managing glaucoma and the other on the role of electrophysiology in the context of glaucoma.
Dr. Eldib graduated with a master's degree in ophthalmology from Alazhar University in Cairo, Egypt, in 2014 and a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from Cairo University. Subsequently, he completed a residency in ophthalmology at the Research Institute of Ophthalmology in Egypt, a fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology at Emory University in Atlanta and a second fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology, strabismus and adult motility at UPMC.
In addition to his professional achievements, Dr. Eldib is actively involved with several industry-related organizations, including the American Association of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, the World Society of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus and is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (Glasgow). He has also presented at various international events in North America, Europe, Asia, and Africa.
