Growing up in a cramped two-bedroom apartment near Oakland, California, Mr. Kaminskiy shared a room with his two older sisters. The constant refrain of "we cannot afford this" echoed in their household, a stark reminder of the financial struggles faced by his first-generation immigrant parents. They worked tirelessly to provide for their family, often sacrificing their own comforts to ensure that there was food on the table. Even the simplest pleasures, like playing school sports, dining out, or buying new clothes, were viewed as luxuries beyond reach. This challenging environment ignited a hunger within young Sergei, fueling a relentless drive to succeed. His father's small import-export business became a backdrop for his early lessons in hard work and dedication. From a young age, Sergei found himself helping out at the shop, absorbing the values of perseverance and resilience.
Even in elementary school, his entrepreneurial spirit shone through. Sergei began selling pixie sticks to his classmates for a dollar a bundle. His venture quickly gained popularity, and before long, he found himself in trouble with the principal due to the candy wrappers littering the playground and hallways. But rather than deter him, this incident only deepened his resolve. Mr. Kaminskiy's journey from a challenging childhood to becoming a successful businessman is a testament to his unwavering determination and the lessons learned from his upbringing. Each obstacle he faced only strengthened his ambition, shaping him into the accomplished entrepreneur he is today.
At age 19, Sergei met his wife, Elena, and shortly after, they got married and opened a handyman company, which eventually became known as Handyman Service Plus. Starting in a tiny one-bedroom apartment in 2005, they would rise before dawn and distribute flyers door to door praying that someone would call to have some work done.
Since then, he has made significant strides in various industries over the course of nearly two decades. As president and chief executive officer of Kaminskiy Design & Remodeling, he has led the company since 2005 to become a premier name in home improvement. As a result of his leadership, the company has earned accolades such as, Best Home Improvement Company, Best Home Remodeler, Best Kitchen Remodeler, and Best Bathroom Remodeler from San Diego's Best by the San Diego Union-Tribune for nearly 15 consecutive years. He has also earned numerous awards, including the San Diego Magazine Award in 2024 and Best Luxury Remodeler from Modern Luxury's Best of the City in 2023. Moreover, he has been recognized multiple times by Houzz for service excellence and by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Association for top home improvement contracting.
His ventures into commercial real estate began in 2014, where he has since invested in properties including a lucrative apartment complex, a 24-acre, riverfront vacation rental property with five homes and recreational vehicles and a multi-unit, waterfront, mini-hotel in Florida. Additionally, he owns land in Tulum, Mexico, with plans to construct 45 to 60 condominiums.
In 2013, Mr. Kaminskiy expanded his business portfolio by founding Kaminskiy Commercial Construction, where he also serves as president and chief executive officer. His company developed an entire 37,000 sf. building from an empty shell to a state-of-the-art manufacturing, production, packaging, and office building for Nordic Naturals - a company that has been the industry leader in omega-3 fish oil supplementation since 1995.
Coupled with his aforementioned businesses, Mr. Kaminskiy was presented with an opportunity to become a shareholder at Premier Nutra Pharma, in exchange for helping the company develop their manufacturing plant, highlighting his versatility. Through his extensive experience in developing the Nordic Naturals facilities, with his company's involvement, he played a pivotal role in developing the Premier Nutra Pharma's entire commercial kitchen and gummy production line, helping them develop one of the most respected nutraceutical formulations, manufacturing, packaging, and shipping companies of the West Coast.
As a result of his business experience in construction and the home improvement industry, in 2022 Mr. Kaminskiy was inspired to establish Kaminskiy Care and Repair, a successful handyman enterprise, operating under the Kaminskiy Group, where he also serves as the president and chief executive officer.

In all he has pursued and achieved, Mr. Kaminskiy attributes much of his success to God, his father - Valeriy G. Kaminskiy, an extraordinary role model and entrepreneur who inspired him from a young age, as well as his business mentor Bob Straul. Together, these influences have shaped his career trajectory and instilled in him the values of hard work and innovation.
In tandem with his professional endeavors, Mr. Kaminskiy loves giving back to those who have served our country and the less fortunate. The Kaminskiy Gives Back Campaign, which he established in 2009, donates home improvements to veterans, first responders and senior citizens.
Mr. Kaminskiy enjoys not only leading several successful businesses, but also a fulfilling personal life with his wife and three children.
