Dr. Armstrong's passion for teaching and her high standards have been recognized through numerous awards, including the prestigious Charles B. Murphy Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Education from Purdue University in 2017, among other accolades throughout her career. Dr. Armstrong attributes her success thus far to a dedication to sharing her research findings with others and the support of mentors like Bonnie Wheeler, who provided an inspiring example of women helping each other in academia.
Through a deep motivation to expand her mentorship role, Dr. Armstrong continues to make significant contributions to the field of higher education. Notably, her positive impact is exemplified by several contributions to The Great Courses, for which she has produced a series of lectures on topics such as King Arthur, the Black Death and the medieval world. Equally as committed to addressing gender disparities in academia, she co-founded The Bonnie Wheeler Fellowship Fund in 2009, which supports female academics by providing assistance in completing projects and advancing their careers from associate to full professor rank. Outside of her professional life, Dr. Armstrong is dedicated to her husband and twin daughters, and she enjoys being a sports fan and traveling with her family.
