Marquis Who's Who Honors Gary Rader for Successful Career in the U.S. Navy

Following a 20-year career in the U.S. Navy, Gary Rader became a skilled millwright and foreman



He attributes much of his achievements to the unwavering support of his family, which has been a cornerstone of his career and personal life.

    YUMA, AZ, October 29, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Gary Rader has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Mr. Rader, a retired U.S. Navy veteran who was born in Wellington, Kansas, started his career as a Shag Boy for Denver Buick in Denver, Colorado at the age of 16. After about six weeks he was promoted to the lube rack servicing autos.

Six months later, Mr. Rader joined the Rocky Mountain Shows (a carnival) as an assistant teardown and setup of the different carnival rides, semi-driver, transporting equipment, traveling North through Nebraska, to South Dakota. He then returned to Denver to go to work for the Denver Auto Auction. He drove and towed automobiles for delivery to dealerships all over the western states.

At the age of 18, Mr. Rader signed up and joined the U.S. Navy and started a 20-year career, where his service included extensive time in the Pacific, with deployments to Kodiak Alaska, Okinawa, Guam, Japan and Kwajalein Atoll, as well as Port Lyautey, Morocco, North Africa. One of his most notable achievements was his two tours in Vietnam, where held the rank of Construction Mechanic E-6 and was responsible for leading his group. His military service earned him several prestigious awards, including the Navy Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Rifle and Pistol Expert Medals and provided him with invaluable experience and education.

Following his military service, Mr. Rader transitioned to the aluminum industry, working 12 years as a millwright and foreman for Alcoa, one the world's largest producers of aluminum. In his role, he was responsible for overseeing maintenance operations and ensuring the smooth functioning of equipment. His expertise in repairs and maintenance was instrumental in maintaining operational efficiency.

After his tenure at Alcoa, Mr. Rader joined Oregon Steel, one of the largest producing mini steel mills in North America. Again, as a millwright, he worked for additional 10 years before retiring in 1995. At Oregon Steel, he was tasked with the critical responsibilities of maintaining overhead cranes and essential steel making machinery, ensuring that operations ran smoothly and efficiently.

Mr. Rader completed college coursework that contributed to his professional success. He attributes much of his achievements to the unwavering support of his family, which has been a cornerstone of his career and personal life.

Throughout his life, Mr. Rader has been actively involved in local charities, demonstrating his commitment to giving back to the community. He is an active member of the Association of Mature American Citizens (AMAC), the American Legion and various RV clubs.

Outside of his professional endeavors, Mr. Rader enjoys playing golf and RVing. Looking ahead, he plans to continue enjoying life and pursuing his passions. His journey from Wellington to a successful career in the Navy and industrial sectors is a testament to his resilience and dedication.
