Currently serving as the vice provost of learning innovation at Illinois Institute of Technology, she has dedicated her career to advancing educational practices and making a meaningful impact on students' lives.
Prior to her current role, Dr. Scagnoli was an assistant vice chancellor for enterprise learning innovation at Northeastern University from 2020 to 2023. Previously, she held tenure at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from 1999 to 2020, serving in various positions such as research associate professor, assistant dean for education innovation, chief learning officer, program coordinator for the online master's program and instructional designer for academic outreach. Earlier in her career, she founded and directed Instituto Superior de Enseñanza Inglesa from 1983 to 1998 and held roles as a high school instructor and principal in Argentina.
Dr. Scagnoli's academic journey is equally impressive. She earned a Doctor of Philosophy in human resource education from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 2007, following a Master of Education from the same institution in 2000. Her foundational education further includes a Bachelor of Arts in teaching English as a foreign language from Profesorado Gabriela Mistral in Villa Maria, Cordoba, Argentina.
In recognition of her professional accomplishments, Dr. Scagnoli has been named an Outstanding Supporter by the Subsistence Marketplace Initiative at the Department of Business Administration, Gies College of Business and received the Outstanding Academic Professional Staff Award from the College of Business in 2016. Her dedication to research was further acknowledged with the Research and Publication Award by the Universities Continuing Education Association in 2005. Additionally, she was honored as a Fulbright Scholar in 1998.
Dr. Scagnoli is actively involved with several industry-related organizations, such as the American Educational Research Association, the Academy of Human Resource Development, EDUCAUSE and USDLA. Her commitment extends beyond academia through her roles as a board member for Human Kinetics since 2019 and as a volunteer training designer for Marketplace Literacy since 2012. She also served as a senior consultant for Tijiko from 2018 to 2022.
In addition to her professional endeavors, Dr. Scagnoli is a prolific author and contributor to educational literature. Her publications include co-authoring "Launching an Online Business Program at Scale: A Retrospective Case Study of Disruptive Innovation Before the Pandemic," published in the Journal of Management Education in 2022, and authoring "Common Practices in the Creation of Education Videos," featured in the Journal of Education and Research in Accounting in 2021.
Initially, Dr. Scagnoli's journey in her profession was inspired by her passion for design and her desire to help others. Reflecting on her career today, she attributes much of her success to her family's strong emphasis on education. Despite her grandparents' lack of formal education, her parents prioritized learning and firmly believed in its transformative power.
Outside her professional life, Dr. Scagnoli enjoys spending time with her family, including her two daughters. She is passionate about ensuring that educational programs reach millions globally in the upcoming years, particularly underserved individuals seeking quality education. She is also focused on bridging the gap between technology and human relationships, emphasizing the importance of maintaining human connections in tech-driven environments.
